How do US toilets work?
Just back from a trip and curious about how US toilets flush compared to ours. Initially I thought the only difference was just a higher S trap so the water level sat higher in the pan.
Then realised that when it is flushed the waste is sucked out of the pan from the S trap rather than 'washed' down from the top as in Oz - how does this happen?
Not an earth shattering matter but just curious - is it a venturi effect from having water dump straight into the waste pipe behind the S trap (rather than the pan), creating a vacuum which sucks the S trap and pan dry? If so it must use a fair bit of water as it creates a real rush...
