The Stinks big night out .....
After 12+ more months of procrastination Sir Stinkalot managed to make it down to his first meeting of the local woodworking guild last night. I arrived unannounced but was cheerfully greeted by all in attendance and was made to feel most welcome. It was the first meeting of the month so it was business night, however I did get a tour of the machinery and enjoyed the session of show and tell. It confirms to me that woodies in general are extremely welcoming and generously share their knowledge to the less knowledgeable (just like some members on these boards). I look forward to the meeting in a fortnights time as it will be a workshop night, I have been invited back so I must have done something right (even though I neglected to turn off the mobile , the smell must have not been too bad) and it has been suggested that I can work on a project under the guidance of many wiser than myself.
My question is ….. what sort of project should I undertake? I would assume that there is only a couple of hours available on the night …. I have most of the machinery at home so there really isn’t anything special I need to do …. any suggestions?

Take whatever your working on, do some of it on the night, get tool, machine technique and usage tips, practice them under guideance then go home and finish that part on your own machine, using their tips.
Do things that push your skill/knowledge level, and double check your technique with the older and wiser (some might be both!).
The more machines you use under guidence the more tips you get and the more you learn.

How about some fresh drawers
But seriously folks, perhaps something fairly portable, unless you're sure that the project and any materials belonging to you won't grow legs whilst in storage. (TAFE course veteran speaking here)
Think about any areas you'd like to improve on eg joinery, carving or turning and plan your project around the selected area - if there is club expertise available of course.
Cheers,
Justin.

The Stinks big night out
How about a sculpture of yourself.
That should not take more than 2 hours.
