First Year Cabinetmaking Apprentice wanted for Antique Restoration, Furniture Making, Cabinetmaking and High End Joinery family business, see GN Olsson Traditional Craftsmen – Interiors, Furniture, Clocks, Frames & Artifacts – Brisbane, Gold Coast & Sunshine Coast.

Until recently we were doing about 40% making high end joinery and furniture, to 60% antique restoration work. However, with the economic downturn we are now doing only about 5% making and 95% repairs and restoration. We promote both services heavily.

The type of applicant we want is an A student on hand tools and power tools (Woodwork) and drawing (eg autocad/ design). We’d expect C’s or higher in English and Maths. He may already have a job in this field, or be enrolled in cabinetmaking at college.

The applicant probably has hobbies in related fields or interests requiring exactness and attention to detail eg. modelling.

Some may already have access to, or have their own small workshop, hand tools and books or magazines on the subject.

The applicant would have manual arts teachers, work experience supervisors, employers and/or other people willing to attest to their motivation, aptitude and skill for this type of work.

The applicant may have a portfolio (selection) of drawings or photos of work done at home, school, work experience or in a casual job.

The applicant would have references from any work or regular volunteer work they’ve done, or a recreational instructor. Referees would say they are 100% honest and reliable, respectful, well spoken, strong, team players and of good work ethic.

Applicants are expected to have manual driving licences as soon as possible.

Interested applicants can supply a resume which includes proof of requested information and any photos/ drawings and references. Only applicants who supply information in the manner we've requested will be considered to be serious about the job.

Is the apprenticeship based in Bris, Gold or Sunshine Coast?

99% of the time the apprentice will work from our workshop which is located at Kurwongbah, next suburb north after Petrie. We service Brisbane (90%) Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast (10%).
