I'm extending my house in Sydney and have hit a wall (pun intended).

I'm new to the forum (been stalking and reading) and although I'm convinced to use a reverse venere system, I dont know if Fibre cement cladding or newer foam backed aluminium and plastic type cladding may be a better choice to help keep the house cooler in summer.

Background: I am extending my house. The original part of the house is double brick (1940's) that has been renovated with new windows, renderedwalls and new ceilings. The part where I will be cladding is yet to be built.

The extension is quite large as the house was quite small to begin with. It consists of a sunken living area, two bedrooms, bathroom and walk-in-robe for the master.

I have laid a raft slab, and getting some steel supports fabricated. The roof will be flat angled colourbond. There will be overhang on the northern side to prevent summer sun and let in the winter sun. Interior walls will be brick (initially to prevent accidental damage, now I like to call it a "heatsink"). Timber floors.

Are the FC type cladding systems as practical and heat resistive as foam filled aluminium and plastic types? There will be sarking and insulation between studs to help with R ratings.

Just dont know if I should go with the newer stuff or stick with the initial idea of FC sheeting.
