Scheppac Bandsaw Warning
I have had my Bassato 4 for some time now in that time I have replaced the rear guides top and bottom once.
Last Friday strange sounds were coming from the bandsaw while cutting full story on the blog
Here's the danger should the rear of the blade cut in to the guides as mine has done as it was not spinning like the lower one had been (see photo) then if it starts spinning and is caught in the cut groove it can possibly snap the blade.

I have done an upgrade to bearing rear guides now and all is well.
I was lucky I stopped the bandsaw and checked at first couldn't see the damage done.
Mods if you feel this could be posted elsewhere do so.

Wouldn't it be a common problem with all bandsaws?

Rod, not all bandsaw guides are configured the same. It applies to the scheppach and any others whose back bearings are oriented that way, ie the bback of the blade running on the flat side of the bearing. My Scheppach Basato 3 is like this but my Carbatec 21" saw has a completely different configuration on the guides.
Hope this helps to clarify the original post.
Cheers
DougI got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

Took this to show clearance etc
Rod it is a possibility, the difference is how the Scheppac part is mounted into the brass shaft there is no lube and it would dry out if there was.
In comparison to the bearing which spins free.
Yes it also can seize but not as badly as the original.

Also have the Basato 4, and frankly the euro style guides are a pain in the proverbial. When I noticed the surfaces getting worn/grooved, I removed all the guides (including the back one) and lapped them all flat again on a diamond plate. I put some powdered graphite dry lube on the shafts when I put it all back together, but its about due to need doing again. Definitely limits the cut quality possible with this saw.
Problem is, as far as I can tell, there is no easy way to completely upgrade the euro guides to a decent bearing system (e.g. Carter) or ceramic blocks. The mounting arrangements on the Basato 4 just don't suit any upgrade that I've found.
Ray - I'd appreciate details of the bearing size/part number that you used on yours. Might be worth a try to at least upgrade one of the wear surfaces !
Cheers

John I have no problem with the side guides at all just the rear. I had considered the grinder or machine them but not worth it.
I saw and sure I bookmarked a full refit with different guides but can not find it, I do have an idea but not the time as yet to make whats required.
Pm on way John.
