Triton Rubbish
After many many hours reviewing and looking at routers i decided not to go cheap bunnings and instead go a little more expensive and buy a MOF001 Triton router which i now regret, after 2 weeks use yes 2 weeks it shat itself, only cutting pine with a straight 19mm cutter 2-3mm at a time it started to spark and smoke and was on the verge of exploding, i have returned it to where i bought it at Just Tools in melb and alas they can only send it off to check out at a triton repair centre in knox, i don't know what planet other people come from but where i'm from thats a crap tool i mean if you had a year of heavy use i could understand but 2 weeks? and its not the user if a router can't cut 2-3mm of pine with little use it is just a piece of crap, i would not buy one again, save your money up and buy something better like a makita RP2301FC, i wish i did or even a festool if you really keen, very disappointed

I understand your disappointment Tobias but it is hardly fair to judge the
product so harshly.
You may simply have been unfortunate enough to get a faulty one.
This can, and does, happen with anything.
There is much talk and criticism of Ozito tools. They a re cheap and many
would say they are crap. I have a couple of Ozito tools and they have served
me very well, but I would not, on my experience alone call them superior tools.
See what happens when you get the tool back.

Tobias, you have not been treated fairly.
Australian consumer law is very clear. You suffered a MAJOR DEFECT and are fully entitled to a replacement or refund.
It is written here: Repair, replace, refund | ACCC
Sparks, smoke and on "verge of explosion" is not a minor issue.
Ring them and ask politely that they courier you a new one tomorrow.
Honestly, I'm surprised at Just Tools. Their reputation alone would have had me saying they would swap instantly. It's no skin off their nose, they give you one off the shelf, toss the broken one in a box and get a credit from the supplier. 98% of industries work like this. Plus its good customer service.

Tobias, you did the right thing. You looked intoall the router stuff and decided to go with the Triton becuase lots of people said it was a good thing. It is. You did good!
You got a bad one. Your supplier has done the wrong thing. Go back and kick ars*.Get a replacement. You are entitled to a new replacement.____________________________________________________________

"Sparks, smoke" are observations of the fault, "on the verge of explosion" is an opinion of someone who is not qualified to diagnose faults in and repair powertools.
The manufacturer has every right to examine the tool and determine if it is a major or minor defect and then act in accordance with the law.
How can someone, with or without relevant trade qualifications, say that it is a major defect when they have not examined the tool and are basing their opinions on a third-party unqualified observation?
I have two Triton routers. The first one I bought was an out-of-the-box failure. It was replaced under consumer law. The replacement has done a lot of work and I am very happy with it and the other Triton router I bought since then.
I know it is disappointing when a new toy, I mean tool, does not perform as we would like. But let the process take its course, you have reported it and it has been taken for examination and repair or replacement.
Hopefully this will turn into a good news story but let the process run its course before laying blame and making accusations.

With respect, one doesn't require a trade qualification to determine if something is FUBAR. I think everyone here knows the stator and/or commutator/brushes decided to disintegrate. We've all had this happen to some trusty old drill in the past.
To happen on a new tool, a professional one no less, happens, but being pro you'd expect a much better policy from a tool company.
If it were a blender from BigW you would get a replacement or refund on the spot.

Sorry but have to agree with Doug on this one.
Till it is assesed properly by qualified persons then it can be deemed faulty manufacture or user problem.
Your assumption that everyone here even knows what a stator and armature are is a bit far fetched.. But we all know that you dont let the smoke out as that is the big no no.
Just tools have done the right thing and will do the right thing by the customer, this is after all a few hundred $ router not a $30 throw away blender.Jim Carroll

I'm on my second Triton router.
The first one is 7 years old and has done heaps of work under the table, only the speed switch has packed it in otherwise would still be going. Number 2 is all good.
It may be you just lucked out on a dodgy one. I can understand you would be cautious about looking at a Triton again, it just takes one bad experience to turn anyone away.
I bought a Bosch sander from a shop that was closing up. It ran like crap straight out of the box. With the original place of purchase closed i decided to just crack it open and have a look. Turns out one of the brush mounting brackets wasnt fitted correctly so the brush wasnt even close to making contact. Put it in the correct position, closed it up and all was good.
Hope it all gets resolved and you get a replacement ASAP.

As others have said, it does happen that a tool with a fault that develops in the first few hours of use makes it to the customer.
I lashed out on a Festool router, and before I even put a bit in it felt the plunge action was not right, perhaps even unsafe. So I spoke to my selling agent who arranged for it to be looked at and repaired. So I had to wait a week or so before testing it, but the plunge action was fixed. (I also received an additional collet.)
Hope it all has a positive outcome.

I have a Triton router (I bought myself) AND an Ozito router (wife bought me, bless her). Triton under the table, and Ozito hand held both work very well. I would say you just were unlucky & got a bad individual product. Just Tools will sort it out & you'll be back to routing in no time.

I think I have had my Triton easily more than 8 years and it hasn't given me one iota of trouble...all types of timber with a large variety of bits. I think you just got that odd dud one that happens in even the best equipment....... put together by somebody after a boozy lunch.

Looks like a typical 1 post wonder, drops in makes some derogatory remarks about a favoured product and is never heard from again.

derogatory one poster ha no not so i call it as i see it i guess a few of you are on the other planet where its ok that new tools just break straight out of the box, no it wasn't a cheap router bit, do i need a trade qualification to know that a sparking and smoking 2 week triton router is junk, really? or do i just ignore it until it explodes or i get electrocuted? If i got a "bad one" what does that say about triton quality control? Look it gets better it turns out its the armature, seems like a common problem, and they don't have a single spare in AUS so i have to wait 1 week to 1 month till i hear anything again, sorry not acceptable, at least if you go to bunnings they give you cash back or replace straight away, i have every right to be disappointed, my project is now on hold
