    Default Cheese board christmas presents

I made about 20 cheese boards/chopping boards for Christmas presents. They were made from after reading an article in the June 2013 Fine Woodworking magazine.

I used New Zealand rimu and macrocapa as the main timers and the inlays were American walnut, Mahogany, and European Beech. They were all different sizes depending on what was on hand.

This ne is the last of them and is going to friends in Germany on Sunday.

It measures 300mm x 390mm and the inlays go right through the board as you an see in the picture.

    That's really cleaver and nice.

    How did you do it?

Would I be accurate in suggesting, by preparing the board first, then cutting it once puting the red inlay then glueing? And then cutting and repeating for the next inlay etc?

You first make a template of the curve and then with a hand held router cut a groove about 5mm into the board.
You then bandsaw through the middle of the groove and clean up the edges with pattern bit in the table router.
You glue the inlays in and clamp them up. The inlay needs to be the same thickness a the groove that was routed out.
You can only use inlays up to about 3mm thick so if your groove is thicker you need to use more than 1 strip of inlay.
If you can get hold of the June 2013 Fine Woodworking magazine the instructions are there.

Great idea for Christmas presents. Simple and very personal touch to the cheese boards.

If you're totally in control then you are going too slow.
