    Default Skirt Profiles

    Ok,

So a guy at work has had a friendly invasion from some nice litte white coloured ants and they fed on the skirting of his home...So, little friends have since left (hopefully) and skirting needs to be replaced....

    Problem...

No one stocks his particular profile anymore.....

    Question...

Does anyone in Brisbane (preferably Nthside) know of a facility that will willingly copy an existing profile and machine skirting to match? Probably going to need about 50LM......

    Thanks in Advance!

    Shane,

Years ago, Findlaysons could arrange it. By years ago, I mean 15 at least, but if they can't they may know someone. They were at Milton and East Brisbane, but I am a bit geographically remote at the moment to find a phone book!

    Cheers,

    P

    Hi Shane,

As already mentioned, I'm pretty sure that Finlayson's at the gabba can mill to order however their prices are often quite $$ on stock profiles and there will be setup fees for a small run of a custom profile.
The have pics of their mouldings online.

In my recent quest for mouldings, I also came accross a place on the Gold Coast who specialise in the manufacture of mouldings in FJ pine or pretty much any timber you wish and will deliver to Brisbane. Found them to be very helpful and their prices are good. They also have pics of their profiles on their website.

Good luck - matching these old moulding can be frustrating !
    Cheers,

No help in brisbane but it seams like a good idea to get a a new thicknesser moulder, any excuse in my book is a good one for a new tool

About 10 years ago I had some old profile to replace in three terrace houses and BBC ordered in a special run from one of there suppliers was only a couple of $s extra per meter, cause now there Bunnings so you can kiss that idea good-by.

We used to have a company here in Sydney - Balmain Softwoods who would virtually mill up any profile you want. Which catered to all the heritage houses in the area.

Don't know if they are still in business

For those in Brisbane try talking to some of the shops which cater to heritage renos (ceiling mouldings, antique door furniture, that sort of stuff) and see if they know of any local milling shops.

I've seen in books a method of making it yourself by hand. Using a file or grinder, shape a broken hacksaw blade to the correct profile. Then clamp it in a slot in a block of wood and scrape some suitably sized skirting board until you get the finished profile.

Probably too much work for 50 LM.
