A box for a very special day - wedding wine box
So the phone rings last Monday night and it’s our friends Dave and Kerrine. Dave is a massive wine lover and collector, so he wants me to make a box to hold a fine bottle of red wine, he wants to seal the box and open it on their ten year anniversary. With very little time I could only get cracking on Thursday night for a few hours in between my baby daughter sleeping.
So an hour before the wedding I have stripped the heads of the brass screws out three times!!! This is even after I have pre drilled and used a steal screw to tap...what a nightmare! I slapped a liberal coat of Danish oil on the box minutes before leaving and my missus drove whilst I was rubbing the box down in the car!
I got the shock of my life when I was told that they were actually going to use the box in the ceremony!!!! It all worked out well and it was a wonderful day with many people coming up to me to compliment me on the box and could they order one......damn I should have done a batch of 5!! Lol! I made some custom holders that held the bottle in the box, applied a few more coats of Danish Oil and some U-Buet wax to finish!
I was really touched that my humble box was part of Dave and Kerine’s special day......it really meant a lot to me

A great story Milo - and the box is pretty good too!
It's probably a good thing that you didn't know they were going to use in the ceremony - the pressure would have been unbearable.Cheers, Bob the labrat
Measure once and.... the phone rings!
