I got told on the weekend that when they decided to stop cattle grazing in the high country, they also went in and bulldozed the dams which were around the place to supply drinking water to them. These small dams were marked on the maps used by the CFA to refill the tankers. Nobody from DSE told them they weren't there any more and after having trouble getting to them, all they found was dust.
Stupid DSE pricksIf at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.

Completely and totally incorrect. In all respects. Firstly there were no dams ever built to service mountain cattle.
There have been occasions when small dams have been built as Water points (WP) for fire fighting due to a local lack of water. Occasionally these are re-sited or removed for variouse reasons, however the only example of this i can think of is well outside the "mountain cattle" area.
It is possible that cattle being run on mountain leases used these water points probably destroying the surrounding vegetation in the process and creating a potential erosion and weed problem.

You've been sending the smoke up this way - we've had it as a thick cover for 3 days due to the inversion layer over Canberra (yeh ... all that hot air!). I think the winds today finally cleared it.
Hope all is well."... it is better to succeed in originality than to fail in imitation" (Herman Melville's letters)

We could smell burning grass all last night, smoky again too.
All we need now is one tosser in the Dandenongs with a passion for arson and that will be gone again too.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.
