    Question hi all,,

my name is john,im from GRIFFTH NSW,
i am a ford mechanic by trade, married with two kids.
i have recently become intrested in wood work again after a ten year break(used to do wood work in school(the normal cubords, coffee tables, nut bowls etc etc

i picked up a very nice offcut of river redgum that my wife would love to be turned into a chopping bord.now i have sanded it all back etc but i am a bit on edge of how to finish it,
from what i have seen i have to use a mineral oil(food safe) to seal it but i dont know were to get this from, the only "mineral oil" i have been pointed to is "parrifin oil" another person i spoke to said mix some bees wax in with it?????

p/s the wife would like a real nice finish to it,so the grain stands out real nice and is possible a lil bit glossy ?????

thanks for the help guys and girls
    john

    Hey John,

Welcome to the fountain of knowledge,

I can recommend Organoil, as I used it and its really good, There are also other products that U Beaut make that are similar, I am sure that you will get other opinions.

    Good Luck with it

Hi John and welcome to the forum. Take a look at U-beaut
    Home page
and browse their products, I'm sure you will find something there that will be more than adequate for what you need.

    Default Cutting board finish

I don't know if this will help but I buy Mineral oil at a drug store in the laxative department. I put it a pot and heat just short of a boil, then I put a slab of paraffin in and let it dissolve.
Let it cool and rub it into the cutting board. It is food safe ( at least in this country) and will will a low luster finish. It can be reapplied as need and will last for years.
    Regards
    Joe
