Default Tools for carving into a Palm Tree

    Afternoon,
I am after some advice on what would be the best tool to use to carve a design into a Palm tree. The trees are in my yard and I have trimmed them down to a stump about 1.2 mts high and rather than go to the trouble of digging them out I thought that a would carve a design into the 2 of them and make a bit of a feature of them in the garden. The design I would like to put on them wont have any fine detail or anythiing like that ,it will only be on one side of the stump but I would like for it to stand out sort of like a Totem Pole effect but only on one side. So any advice anyone could give on what would be a good tool to remove the material fairly deeply from around the designs edges so that the design itself stands fairly proud from the face of the stump would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank's

I don't know what sort of palm you are talking about but palms are fibrous, not grainy like timber.
I had some cut down in Jan 2011 and there is not much left of the stumps.
Don't know where you are but up here we do not bother digging them out, they just rot away.

    Thank's Wolffie,
Thanks mate I never took into account the fibrous nature of the things. I think I will just cut them off at ground level and save a lot of work shame though they are in a good position to really stand out.
    Thank's again

    Default The Palm.

    Hi Kolan,
I'm thinking of a combo of Chainsaw & a sharp Hatchet.
