    Default Wood heater problems

Have bought a brand new large nectre wood heater. Have had it for 2 months or so. The problem we are having is that whenever we open the door, the smoke pours out into our lounge room. The only time it doesnt do it, is when the fire is mostly coals. The flu is not blocked, however it may not be high enough. The flue cap has a lot of sappy looking sut on the inside of it. Any help appreciated.

If your flu is not blocked then the baffle in the heater is. Smoke pouring out means there is a blockage somewhere. If you've got an old vacuum try and suck out all the crud from above the baffle somehow.

What kind of timber are you burning in it? Dry hardwood shouldn't leave much in the way of deposits.

Some friends of ours used to burn lots of pine in their slow combustion heater - that's a good way to stuff it up real quick

    Hi

Just a thought do you open the flue lever fully before you open the door if not this will make the smoke come out the door

    Hi fog,

What sort of cowl do you have fitted to you chimney? This is the type recommend by "Sooty" an old chimney sweep.
