Well I managed one day in the shed on the pump. I had to do chores yesterday making a box to carry excess camping gear for the back of the ute
Today I thought I would go through and catalogue what has to be done. I took some pics of parts that I have to make etc.
Apart from making new gaskets plus an assortment of studs (some of which I have manage to locate replacements), I also have to file the main valve to suit the steam chest and scrape the auxiliary valve to the flat face on the main valve. Not to mention the pump liner fiasco (still not sure about that one) and honing the steam cylinder bore.
Here are some pics.
First up is the plug that has been wasted and caused some grief getting it out. Might make one, might not

I borrowed the plunger lubricator to see what has to be made. These are the parts
L to R Plug, Follower, Gland seat, Gland nut, Plunger handle and plunger

I have the cylinder drain but not the valve stem to suit

L to R Main crosshead lock bolt x 2, Auxiliary valve spindle, Bucket rings and ball crosshead

Lastly a new or seriously worked on to repair, Ball crosshead and a Main crosshead pin

Restoring a Weir boiler feed pump
Nothing to report at the moment.
Here's the reason why. Flat out in Mildura.

I have put off reading this thread until now. I need to get a good nights sleep and reading all night does not do it. It rained all day today and I was out in it nearly all day so tonight I had no desire to go out to any of my jobs in the sheds. I had a slack one.
I have to say that your work makes for a great read. A lot of learning happening as well. Keep it up.
Dean
PS SWMBO was looking over my shoulder at times and had something to say about your comment re your SWMBO finding her way home.

Not as much done as I had planned this weekend, My parents 'popped' in for a visit. Mind you they are in their '80s and travelled 3 hours so I didn't think it was prudent to be in the shed even though they stayed overnight. Especially as the reason for their visit could see me in my own house with a double brick split level shed that has a walk in pit and a roof structure capable of holding up to 3 tons and more importantly 3 phase power connected
Anyways, as I only had a few moments in there I decided to start with the plug on the plunger lubricator. I took some footage of the process but had the camera in the worst position possible so you can't see anything. Bugga. What was involved was screwcutting, a matching (sorta) radius turning and turning a sharp taper. All simple stuff. The thread is a 3/4" Whitworth, 10 TPI.
Only two pics as I thought the camera was picking it all up
Phil
First pic is at the 'roughed out' stage and second pic is ready to cut the hexagon. I am making up a holder to do this in the shaper. If I had a first taper tap instead of a plug it would've been done as well

Thanks shed but....
I just knew I shouldn't have mentioned it as it invoked the kiss of death and the deal fell through
Anyways, I managed to finish the plug for the plunger lubricator yesterday so here are some pics.
I also started on the gland nut for the same lubricator which I 'should' finish today
In order the pics are,
The holding jig for the shaper
The setup in the shaper
The finished part
The original (not mine) and the copy
Fitted to the lubricator
