I received a letter from Coregas today saying that welders supplies has gone into receivership and that therefore they would deliver to me directly. I am a high end user with one to two cylinders a year, ha ha...Funny because I returned my cylinder to Welders supplies some time ago and bought my own cylinder from a Speedgas distributor... go figure.

my BOC Esized argon cylinder is almost empty and ive been looking into swaping and buying the cylinder from speedgas. has anyone done the swap and think it works out better? with boc being almost on ever corner getting gas anywhere is easy.
Currently im paying $207.90 rent per year with boc, and $167 to swap it each time.
The price of speedgas is $529 to buy and to fill is $159. so it is cheaper in the long run, but will take me 2 and a half to 3 years to be in front. I only use about 1 to 3 cylinders per year depending on what i have going on.
i was also looking at getting a D size bottle for my mig welder, which i rarely use, but was thinking if i own the cylinder then ill be saving there on rental.
i seems a bit of a no brainer to swap but just want others opinions who done the swap over.

Gas price
If you are in Sydney you should ring around there are much better prices than people are quoting here ,You don't have to be a big user to get decent gas prices although the rent is a killer every body charges around the $200 mark per year ,Some of the smaller welding shops will do 3 month rental and no contract, as a general rule if as weekend warrior and small qty user you are paying more for refills than $110.00 inc gst for a G argon $60.00 inc gst for a g mig gas $40.00 for an oxy g then you haven't checked the market,An E size acet refill should cost no more than $80.00 although why everybody hasn't switched to lpg (buy the correct gear and it works) is beyond me
Long story short ring around the market has changed

I don't know about Qld or regional areas ,but a ring around in Sydney is worth it, its a buyers market at the moment especially with the introduction of the swap and go of industrial gases ,Gold coast has a few corgas depots ,what do they charge

Well there's swap and go here too, but I wouldn't call it a buyers market, in fact it works out for me that MIG gas cylinders are cheaper to rent than buy even though I'm a low volume user. Given your comments earlier I figured you must have secured a good deal from a specific supplier rather than just an observation that it was worth ringing around. My current rental is through a coregas agent... so the prices I get from them are as listed above.

Most of you guys are lucky BOC is the only mob around these parts, speedygas want $100 each way freight here(50c a Km!) for a E argon and 140 refill yep 340 per bottle... BOC hit me for 192 per swap
It would be cheaper for me to drive down to Adelaide and swap using speedygas, maybe I should just buy 4 bottles and do 1 swap run a year....................................................................

I found out this week that my employer is paying around $50 for a G size Argon mix. You could have knocked me over with a feather.
That is from the local Air Liquide agent.
We would be around the four cylinder a month mark - once I sort all the gas leaks and cut the fingers off whoever is turning the flow meters up flat out
I think I paid $158 for my last G size Argon four months ago.

Now own "E" Argon cylinder
Recently advised by Grahame Collins that Total Tools in Mackay, NQ now have Argon & Argon/mix available in D and E size cylinders. Ordered two "E" argons (one for friend) but only one left from first delivery. New supply arrived about ten days ago so drove down Saturday a week ago and picked them up. Approx 500Kms round trip.
Haven't used mine yet but my mate in Bowen started on his. Had to go to Townsville a few days ago and called into TTs there. No argon there but may be getting swap & go later this year which is different info to my enquiry earlier this year. About the same distance drive for me to either Mackay or Townsville but need to go to Townsville regularly so better if swap and go is available there. Even better if it ever becomes available closer, eg Cannonvale, Bowen, or Burdekin areas but probably not enough demand for this to happen.
Total Tools supplied by Power10 gases. Argon E cylinder (full) costs:New $479 and refill $159 for both Agron and argo mix. Probably not as cheap as available in large cities but only option we have here to avoid renting.
Called in to Grahame Collins place in Mackay and had a coffee and enjoyable talk to Grahame and his wife. Looked at his new shed shown in another post and all looks good with a nice size shaded outside work area.
