Thanks Dave, I can confirm that I will not be bringing the Incra gear for a number of reasons:

    - I was going to cut some boards for the demo in early December before the stupid Melbourne Summer weather started with the temperature and humidity fluctuations that go with it.

    - Well, my Mum put an end to that plan by being put into permanent aged care and nearly dying on me and therefore causing me to drive to Queensland for a fortnight. Mum no longer has any real awareness of her surroundings and who is there. The afternoon I arrived she recognised us, similarly he next morning. After that she was there in body but not in mind. It is very sad.

    - Because of my back problems, I would rather not take my trailer, which I would need if I was taking Incra, because I would at least need the router table. I feel better travelling light.

I reckon I will just take my Arbortec gear I got at the last TWWW show and see what I can do with some of the firewood pile - that is if the firewood challenge is happening this year Dave?

I have not had much of a chance to use any of it yet because of the aforementioned back problems.

    Cheers

    Short answer - No.
But I did say I would bring my Gifkins jig and make a box or three. My Incra stuff isn't portable, as is Doug 3030's system. I will need a router table, and it would be nice if there is a belt / disc sander available, but can get around that if not available.
What size tool rest post is on your lathe(s)?. I can bring an abrasive disc to mount onto a lathe to make an expensive disc sander.
An urn, chairs, Gifkins jig and bits of box making timber are packed, ready for the 1135km trip next week.
Hope the airconditioner is ready for a work-out.

I will "attempt" to bring my router table with Incra fence extra.please read attempt.
We are flat out at work at the moment and even getting to the gtg is going to stretch us.
    But we are coming !!.
Alan, if you want to use my router table Incra fence please do so by all means.
In fact you can give me a lesson on cutting dovetails on it if you know how.
Mine as been changed to the metric lead screw.
If some one can provide some timber(pine will do)
Alan if he likes or Doug can give a demo on using the Incra gear for making boxes extra.

    Cheers Matt(self editing scary)

Alan if you need to pm me regarding above please do.

I know it's a big ask but if any one could bring some timber pre prepared to suit the Incra templates(metric)
    That would be AWSOME

    Cheers Matt

It will be great to have two router tables Matt. The Gifkins jig doesn't rely on a fence for making the standard box, but a fence comes in handy for a variety of tasks to add little details.
I will be bringing some pine pre - cut for demo purposes, no problems in bringing some extra to play with.

I have an imperial LS Incra fence but haven't explored the full potential of this unit, I think Doug may know more about the intracacies of the Incra than I.

    I'll PM you Matt.

    Getting even closer now.

Incra jigs allow extreme accuracy - which is great, but it also adds a level of complexity that woodturners, cabinetmakers and builders/carpenters do not have to consider to the same extent that box makers using the Incra jig have to. You need the timber to be well seasoned and acclimatised to the temperature/humidity.

In Melbourne I would not dream of dimensioning stock for a box to be made using the Incra system in January when the temperature on any given day can fluctuate from 10 to 45 degrees and the humidity is even more unpredictable. Add in another level of complexity - dimensioning it in my shed then taking it to Dave's place where it is different temperature/humidity/altitude again.

Using pine to demonstrate the techniques you can do with the Incra is about all I suggest we do. If you assemble a box under these conditions you can expect some defects to appear before too long.

I have not explored its full potential and I doubt that even Incra have considered all that this kit can do yet either.

I have not used my LS positioner on the router table since the accident I had in 2014 so I am a bit rusty with it all but I am happy to pass on any knowledge I can.

    Cheers

    Default Pine for trials

Making boxes with the Incra or Gifkins set-ups at the GTG are for demonstration of techniques, I am not trying to end up with a gallery item, but if that happens by chance, then well and good!

I have seen the results of dimensioning material from thicker stock and not getting around to completing the job for a number of days / weeks, surprising how much it can move. These days, I saw the timber to a ballpark dimension, leave it for a few weeks if possible, then finish thicknessing and sanding.

I have just had a chat to Simplicity, looks like a bit of fun will be had with router tables and various set-ups over the GTG.

Hope it isn't too hot at Dooen, we don't want to wear out Dave's air conditioner

That would be great Kryn. Could offer you a loan of a 6 x 12 flat bed trailer?

That'd be great Dave, but for 2 problems, my Corolla wouldn't tow it and NO tow bar. Though there has been one on there at some stage, it's got the trailer plug????

    Default Watcha Dooen at Dooen - 27, 28 & 29 GTG 2017

A most important task has been put forward regarding the GTG at Dooen.

It has been strongly suggested by someone close to me that in order to save my skin.

It would be loverly ,to return from the GTG with this framed (I like reddish timber she said)

    Size approximately 300/400 mm.
Alan ,I know I spoke of Sally's hatred of needle work.
But this is different apparently .

I think I've got some Jarrah at home, Ill bring it up .
And I will also ,bring a piece of glass as well.
Any ,and all suggestions taken on board?

    Cheers Matt.

    Conversation went something like this.......

Gabriel: The woodworkers are having their get together again like they did last year next weekend
Simone: You should go. You really enjoyed it and you never do anything
Gabriel: I thought we were too busy, and there is a family lunch on Sunday
Simone: Doesn't matter if you're not there, just go

Is it too late to throw my hat back in the ring?
