Mercer dial indicator
Here is a nice looking indicator which may just need a clean to fix a sticky plunger. It has only 1/2 hr. to run, and is on U.S. eBay, - apologies for the short notice

While I have a spare dollar, I really can't justify another project this size.
However, I contacted the seller and he has no idea what it's for and what tooling goes with it. He said it was left behind by a past tenant who abandoned several machines in lieu of unpaid rent.
He suggested I come and visit see what parts might go with it...
I might leave that to someone else to investigate.
I think it will be cheap.
It weighs over 1000kg and the small pedestal grinder weighs about 200kg!

You and me both Joe.
The only machine I still want to get is a T&C grinder*, but it needs to be small (something bench top size) - that Makino is not going to fit. I'm looking at redundancy at the moment but when I find out how much that's worth and get another job I'm hoping that there's enough left over to do what you did to find a shaper. There must be a small T&C grinder somewhere out there at a realistic price...
Michael
*all the other machines are optional. I can stop buying machinery at any time - honest.

Some very nice looking gear there Richard, but did you see the pallet loads of lathe and mill spares besides all the separated tooling, in other lots - you would need to have some inside assistance, or at least be there yourself to find all the bits that went together. I will never understand how that sort of incompetence can proliferate like it does. I can't see that it will increase the proceeds to the vendor, - most will possibly end up as scrap.
