Bench
Wonder if the drawer slides are cast iron ?
Bought a bench from Lithgow small arms at the closing auction and thats what they had.
Very heavy H frame cast legs to bench height.
Found a dozen pairs of table height legs in a demo'd building in Parra years back, sold em to one of the genuine repo dudes.
If you dig old gear check out Grays; Patternshop; Johns valves; Vic.
We are just about back to the 1930s in our industrial capability.
At least the Ni hard would make good tank hulls if we dont offshore the last of our mining/cane maintainance capability. Its now very exposed in Qld and WA..

Now I'll be the first to admit I don't know much at all about toolmaking history, planes etc. but this looks fascinating:

Wsal,
It's a Chaplin's Original Patent Plane #1210 (it is not the improved patent as claimed) . They were sold by Tower and Lyon NY, the hardware merchants, and made by Ivor Johnson.
For more information, including a copy of the original patent go to my webpage... and for a look at some in my collection here. I wrote an article on the Chaplin planes and presented it to the HTPAA conference in 2006, and it was printed in the August 2006 edition of their journal, The Tool Chest.
Interesting that it should be so badly described when a Google search of Chaplin plane gets my page 2nd, and Chaplin Patent Plane gets it 1st!
Regards,
Peter
Here is a picture of the group of 4 of the #3 size planes in my collection. The one with the iron knob and handle is most likely the best example of it's size and type in existence.

OK back on topic (the sublime and the ridiculous). Have a look at this.
At least they aren't trying to make money on the shipping.
Any takers?

Jim Bode was never one to under-price a tool.

I love the way they all decide what is collectable. This is just a moving fillister, is it not?

This one probably is a collectors item - particularly if you're interested in orange stuff from before it was orange!
