Thanks everyone for the chat today. It was both entertaining and informative.

Next week I will try to log on through my shed computer if I can. Wifi is a bit thin out there but I can get it to play youtube music while I work so it might support Zoom if I am lucky.

Hoping to do it by shed-cam because my workbench https://www.woodworkforums.com/f213/...10#post2204931 will be finished by then and I can't invite everyone over for a party so the best I can do is share on Zoom.

Yes, it was a good hook up. This is the link to the Spotted Gum that was sawn a few years back now.

As Pagie said, it makes a mess of the ground (carved up and sawdust etc). Not really viable without specialised equipment. I will take some pix if I can of my chainsaw mill later in the week and post here, but I think the Alaskan style chainsaw mills are easier for most people. Just to summarize some of our comments today, You really need a saw that will run a 26" bar as a minimum. In practice this means a saw of about 70cc and upwards. Just use a standard semi chisel chain sharpened at a normal angle (30 degrees.) A lesser angle will give a smoother cut but cutting will be slower.

Have a look on the small timber milling section of the Forum. There are plenty of examples there. These were the logs I mentioned in the chat.
