Thanks Dave. It's been a bit fiddly getting it done, but I'm just about there. A few more touches and I should have it together.
Of course that doesn't mean I'm not going to try and spruce it up a tad where I can. You know me, I just can't leave things looking stock standard.
I hope everyone will approve of the finished article. I still have a bit of routing to go yet and a bit of trim work, then it'll be ready for the camera.
I will however be taking a few pics of the guts of the air tool crib to show the spacers I made up plus there's a little surprise at the end of the rainbow too.
Cheers,
Bob

It took me about an hour this morning setting up my router table to make two simple cuts. Problem was, to get it exactly spot on, I had to make corrections in 1/2 mm increments at a time and countless practice runs before I could actually commit to making the grooves in the final pieces.
Then I spent almost the same amount of time cutting and trimming the filler pieces of wood that were to go into the routed grooves.
In the end I was extremely happy with the final results, but the real kicker is that when it's all completed, these particular pieces won't be seen at all.
Bit of a problem with my fingers too now. Got so many cuts and abrasions that it either hurts to pick something up or I keep dropping stuff all the time.
Maybe the wood gods are trying to tell me something.
Cheers,
Bob
BTW, I should have some small progress picks by Monday night.

Hi Michael,
I know I can always count on you and the other guys to give me a bit of a shove when I've been a bit slack with my updates.
Initially I had sort of 'side lined' the bench building to complete the air tool cabinet, and with a bit of luck, I'll have that done fairly soon.
The past few weeks though have been a bit of a slow period for me, and then the passing of Robin Williams was the final straw that made me retreat into myself.
So I've been fighting the Back Dog lately and have let it interfere with my work. I'm sorry I've let you all down with my lack of promised pics and progress reports, but hopefully I'll soon be able to get back "on my bike" and start making sawdust again.
Thank you again for your support and I'll try to start showing some forward movement ASAP.
Cheers,
Bob

Never fear
we will sit here calmly by the fire
having a little finger of port, or two
awaiting your next progress photo
thinking 'where's that bustard got to?'
has he sharpened a chisel?
has he finished his bench?
where are the piccies, too few?
He laments the passing of Robin
as all of us worthy folk do
but never fear the sun will rise again
and ... how to end this,
I have no bloody clue.
we are with you mate - progress when you can!regards

Hey Bob No rush. The only person who dictates your speed on any project is you. We just like hearing your voice every now and then, and secondly seeing your progress on the shed. I don't know if the winter feels like ending up your way but here in Melbourne we are expecting some warmer days very soon. I'm looking forward to more sunshine to lighten our days. Danny

I am speechless!
You guys have done more to lift my spirits in a few minutes with just your kind and supportive words (not to mention that fantastic poem) than any high paid psychiatrist could have achieved in a year on his couch!
I could almost say I feel rejuvenated by your caring friendliness and motivation. I don't think I could ask for a finer collection of friends and supporters than you guys. From deep in my heart I give you all a HUGE Thank You and a collective .
I promise you one and all that tomorrow I will once again have sawdust up my nose, and I owe it all to all of you.........My Friends.
Thank You and take care,
Bob

Finally, something to show for my efforts.
Hi again guys,
As promised, I've actually managed to get to a point where I have some pics to show of what's been going on in my shed (and my loungeroom). This is just my version of a pic I think I showed earlier of a 'cabinet' to hold air tools. So I tried to copy it to a certain extent, but I couldn't miss out on the opportunity to add my own few touches to the original idea. The first pic is nothing special other than it shows one side that has been laminated with cedar ply. This was the "show" side so I wanted it to look a bit better than the ordinary C/D grade ply that the rest is built out of.
The second pic lets you in one one of the special features that I wanted to try and build into it without taking up any extra space. I think you can see in both the first and second and third pics, the small 'slot' that I came up with which is the opening for the hidden sliding door that holds a slide out wall which will have a few tools mounted on/in it, and just to make it harder for myself, I'm rebating every tool into another sheet of cedar ply that fits into the slide out door.
You'll have to wait a bit longer for those pics though.
The last two pics show the almost completed unit front on with both my air brad/pin guns set into their own mounts. I didn't want to just have them shoved into their slots so I made up special holes and rebates for the tools to stand upright.
And finally, the last pic is just me showing off a bit with the hand cut rebates for the divider's cover strips. I could have just cut them flush, but where's the fun in that? So I just sat in my lounge chair one night with my Japanese saw and some small files and came up with what you see here.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the small drawers. They're nothing special, so I made up the front boards out of some stuff I had laying around and tried to make the grain follow along all three drawer fronts. I still have a few other things I want to add to it yet, but hopefully can get it done soon so I can get back to my bench.
Thanks for reading this everyone and especially for the encouragement in getting me to push on with my projects.
Cheers,
Bob
