If you were to stick your head out the door, you'd notice the brisk still night air. You'd sense the moisture in the air as drips fall from your brow. Looking over the horizon towards the Hume you see the fog rolling in. You could draw back a deep breath of the fresh country air. Then as the fig comes upon you you gasp and choke. You taste burnt diesel upon your tongue. Yes it is me, my bus just rattled by

All this time I just thought that funny smell and taste was a combination of my empty shoes and my dog on the end of my bed.
I'll try to remember to bring the old Workmate frame with me to the WW show on Saturday.
DSCF3641.jpgHere are the parts I'm using and what's left from the original Workmate. The rest is yours Dave,

Any progress is good.
It took a while to get moving this morning, but at least by the end of the day I can at least look at my efforts and feel more of less content with my attempts.
I started by trying to level all the lap joints with a rasp file and after getting it mostly done (still a few areas I'm not happy with), I measured every point I needed to so I could cut the first piece for the bench top. This was only 10mm chipboard, which will basically be used as a mould for the eventual top layers, but will still be left as the initial base for the bench top.
I took a few pics just for something to show what I am waffling on about. The final one is just a quick shot of the spirit level to show that even with the whole thing being slapped together from the ground up with secondhand ratty bits of timber from my previously mentioned timber 'collection', it came out better than it has a right to, all things considered.
The chipboard piece I was left with has yet to be "fine tuned", so don't look too close to the edges for a neat fit just yet.
Oh yeah, I fitted and screwed the two angled supports to hold up the outer ledge of the bench which I will probably use a my sharpening station. This still has to be designed, but I have a bit of an idea for it's final look.

I'll try to make it as easy as I can to spot me Dave. I wear my black Laguna Tools T shirt, which should be easy to spot unless it's cold and I have a jumper on.
I'm 5' 17" and will more than likely be limping. This weather plays havoc with my knees, even the fake one.....go figure.
I don't like wearing name tags though, but I'll print one out anyhow.
I'll be with my son and 2 y/o granddaughter.....she's the cute one.

Yeah same here too Dave, I kept checking back at the stand, but seemed to always arrive at the wrong time. Story of my life really.
I hope the stand was in good enough condition for you to use. Anyhow, we'll get together soon enough I imagine.
Cheers,
Bob

I did not realise it was the double height stand. With the lower flip down legs. It will come in handy for my table saw.

I'm glad you are able to use it Dave. I guess I didn't really understand what you meant by a 'double height stand' version.
I'm just happy it went to a good home and will have a second life at your place now. I like to be able to give things away to someone who appreciates the item.
Enjoy,

Over the last few days it has been a little side tracked so have not been able to follow this as I was.
For some reason I had thought you were a little shorter. So when you introduced yourself as Glenrob and standing well over 6 foot I must admit that I was very surprised. And you don't look like anywhere near as old as the age stated on your profile.

It was a pleasure meeting you too Christos. Take it easy with those compliments tho my friend or I'll have to start widening my shed's doorways as well just to fit my big head thru.
I've always wanted to volunteer to do my bit at the Forum's every year, but the fact that my son goes out of his way to take me each year it would be a bit ungrateful to leave him to wander the hall alone especially as woodworking really isn't his 'thing' yet, but I still have hope.
Cheers,
Bob

Progress on the bench itself has been a little slow this week, partly because I'm making my own version of this air tool "cabinet". The only part that will remain similar to the pic(s) below is the top section where the air tools themselves will 'live'. The bit I don't like is that the tools themselves are just placed into their respective slots with no real support. This is where I've changed things slightly. So far I've made up two bases for both my 'nailers' which will see them mounted upright and fully supported as opposed to just placed in there, leaning against the dividers.
I get to do this because I live alone and am able to carve and sand the mounts I made while watching TV. I'll sweep up the wood chips later......promise.
Here's the link to the construction page for this stand if anyone is interested. Air Compressor Shelf | Build a wall-mounted unit to keep this handy tool tidy | Reader

Thanks Michael, I know I can always count on you and others to keep my interest and drive going when I hit a bit of a slow patch.
Even though I'm reasonably occupied with this air tool thing, it has sort of taken me away from finishing the bench itself.
I think the trouble is that I'm trying to be too clever by thinking of new ways to build a better mouse trap, whereas I should be just sticking to the basics and getting the job done.
The one thing I am sort of stuck on is what to put under the bench. Cubby holes or drawers? I going to see what I have laying around in the way of old drawers and cabinets that I can use under the bench with the limited space I have.
Thanks,
Bob
