Just got an email from Bushmiller. He can bring down some plastic buckets to the BBQ for anybody who wants one or more.

    From his email:
"They are nominally 22L (420mm H x 260 D) with a lid that fits well courtesy of a rubber seal. They originally contained resin in another sealed plastic bag so they have not had direct contact with the original contents. There is sometimes a slight odour with them depending on which resin has been in the bucket. However I normally pick the least smelling buckets as I know which is the smelly one and in any event it dissipates with time. I probably have 10 or so I use around the place at home.

They are quite bulky even slotted into each other, but I would be quite happy to bring a quantity down if there was some interest.

They cost $2 each, which is donated to careflight helicopters. There is an almost unlimited supply.

Incidentally, I have used a one on my vacuum system. The plastic is a semi-hard type and not at all brittle. They last fairly well in the sunlight too."

So, the thing to do would be to send Paul a PM if you want one/some, rather than clutter up the thread.

Including you Brett we will be giving 's record a nudge.
if we are going to break your attendance record you might as well be a part of it. I'm sure John would come for another ride.
Those were the droids I was looking for.

Not quite as close Tony, but not far: the two +1s don't really count as woodies. Of course I'll claim them if allowed though.

Indeed Ray. In my post of a few days ago I mentioned those that I hadn't heard from yet - they've all been sent a PM, then a follow up.

PEN MAKERS! Eeeee! Don't you think the list of attendees is bizarre and desperate enough already? Although if Mutawintji can make it he may just have something that they'd be MIGHTY interested in (can't say too much - LLSS).

I can just picture all the desperates now - scavenging around the yard looking for things to cast, when all they'll find is cat scats (dry though). No - don't tell me....

Does this mean I can't bring my micro lathe and pen making tools with me?

HaaHaa .... Had to look up LLSS ..

But its not a secret and no problem telling.

We really do hope to make it but first have to get time off work ... all else bein equal we will be there.

LLSS: I have found a really ancient piece of timber. Maybe hundreds of years old, maybe even more. It has, somewhere in its lifetime been totally gutted by fire, then fallen into a ravine and washed down thru floodwaters into the creeks. There it has been tumbled and abraded. What parts of it the fire has not consumed has been attacked by the relentless flood water tumbling it among the rocks. Probably buried in between each rise of the creek and pushed a little further down with each fresh flood ... until a few weeks ago I found it sticking up out of the creek bed.

All that is left of the trunk, (or possibly a branch) is a hollow piece about 2 metres long and about 150mm (6") round, like an oversize Didgereedoo, but holed all along its length. But that piece, probably only weighing about 2-3kgs now .... is as tough and hard, and has about as much superflous flesh as a piece of highly strung spring steel .... Haaa

I do not know if it is the centre of the trunk, or the outer, or some tough growth that grew as a layer in between. It has a very unusual (and extremely fine) grain.

It is so hard, and its not ironbark, that this weekend I am going to shape and sharpen a lathe-tool out of a small piece and see how it machines Amoora in the metal lathe ... ? worth a try just to see.

It is this piece, which I have no need of, that I told Brett I would bring to the Blue mountains meet. I thought some artistic person or maybe the pen-makers could use this .. In any case I will bring it (as well as some narrow-leaf ironbark if anyone else wants some ... (can maybe only bring about 50kgs, and will cut it into fire-wood length billets unless requested to cut in other size). And if it turns out to be some common stuff ... you can use as firewood ... Haa

    cool bananas .... Greg

Yeah, garn then Ross. We can allocate you a 15 minute time slot in the garden shed down the back.

Actually if Greg is able to come, we can get a bit of the creek stick on the lathe to see what happens. There will, of course, be appropriate tax.
