Maybe a quick game of Rock/paper/scissors at the wicket would look good. Now that's skill.

I knew when I was writing that that I wasn't offering a solution. It really only hurts when our opposition wins the toss. But it is a problem with cricket:

the extraordinary importance of the toss in relation to the condition of the pitch

It doesn't seem to affect other sports so much. Tell me I'm wrong.

    Lunch day three.

A hundred runs on the board.

All going to plan. Only two hundred and fifty to go to avoid the follow on.

And the contribution by 'The Big Queenslander' was as expected.

    Your wrong.

Later when I get a bit of time, Im going to use Statsguru on cricinfo to check out toss winning games as opposed to something like home ground advantage in football.

I will let you know the outcome of my research

Once again selflessly holding up his end for long enough to let Mr Hussey finalise his morning ablutions.

It must take a big heart to recognise that there's another bloke following who's in top form, and it's not your turn to make a double ton today.

He makes a mean pineapple double upside down cake though.

It took a while, my confidence was building! Yes, please let me know the outcome of the research.

Lay off Queenslanders please, we just won the tri-nations rugby league for you, we can't do it all.

I think Pietersen is probably related to that great Queenslander, Keplar Wessells, and Flintoff is very Queensland sounding too come to think of it!

Mate, the National selectors have been laying off him for years.

Looks like another 2 days where only a few wickets fall, hopefully the pitch will break up a bit and we can get on with putting a second victory on the board. Sadly looks like a draw though. Poms will bat on and it will fizzle out. We should declare about the 450 mark tomorrow, Gilly will give a much better display, always does when the top order have a slow time.

No chance for a Pommy victory but bet they have there hopes up. Great, love to see their hopes dashed again.

    11 wickets in three days.

What chance have the Poms got of getting 15 Australian wickets in the next two days?

    None and Buckley's I reckon.

This pitch is not Les Burdett's finest.

In fact I don't reckon it's even Test standard.

Eight of the world's best bowlers and the best they can manage between them over three days is 11 wickets.

    What a joke.

It was interesting to hear the difference between Tony Greig's "Warne and McGrath are finished" and McGrath's veiled criticism of the slowness of the pitch in his paper column.

I actually think they have a good chance. Depends on an early breakthrough (which they seem to be able to achieve)

Knock Australia over for 420 by lunch tomorrow, lead by 130 on first innings. Bat for two and a bit sessions, and set Australia 400 to get on the last day minus half a session. I reckon on a fifth wicket pitch they could make some big inroads into Australia and their confidence going into the 3rd test.

Of course they could knock us over for 40 tomorrow morning, enforce the follow-on and have us 6 for 180 by stumps.

Or of course Gilly could set a fire and give Australia a 250 run lead by the end of the day - now that would be fun!!!!!

    Like watching paint dry!!

I like it when they get out there and hit the freaking ball. I remember the days of Viv and Clive from the windies and they were good. On the other hand do you remember Kim Hughes? .... although he did inherit a team that were acustomed to losing.

I can not bring myself to watch a day of cricket. Just too much more important stuff to do.... like breathing and the such.

I am a fence sitter. I dont mind who wins as long as it is a good game.
