Good Morning Everyone
You can also access this video series through the "Video Button" at the top of every Woodwork Forums page.
I enjoyed the series - a fairly sophisticated construction was broken down into a series of simple logical steps. Steve's sublimal message seems to be - "If I can do it, you can do it." And isn't that what this Forum is about!
Nicely done, Steve. Looking forward to the next series.

Hi Steve Just wanted to say well done on your show. I'm a novice slowly putting a workshop together. I saw an ad for your show on Melbourne 31 but couldn't record is as the good wife had booked the DVR for some other stuff. I just watched the first episode on YouTube and loved it. I learnt a few great tips and am looking forward to more. I love that you show jigs and how to make them. I'm off to the shed to make a bench hook.
Thanks mate
Danny

Hi Steve, just noticed this thread and watched the videos on U-Tube, great job and well done . As you know, if it doesn't have an extension cord I don't know how to us it, but still enjoy watching someone who does . You make a good presenter with clear and concise speech with progress at an good even pace.
I had never heard of a compression joint and so was really interested in that. Couple of issues though. You planed the compression joint on one board, but then plained both down in the example to get them flat, thus removing the compression joint and didn't do them again (or did I miss something). Also with a hide glue you mention not clamping to tight to ensure enough glue is on the joint, but previously you mentioned you need good tight clamping on a compression joint, so I was a bit baffled .
When I get back I'll have to visit your new set-up. You'll also have to see my new front yard including the new carport full of slabs and turning/carving blocks, might be more of interest to you than just the cedar , currently under lock and key and the careful eye of my viscous house sittersNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Hi Neil,
I haven't been on the Coast for yonks, no good coffee makers there since you scarpered off.
When I planed the sprung joint with the boards together, the downward pressure on the Plane changes as you plane, which i'm pretty sure I alluded to in that segment.
So when you commence the beginning of the Spring downward pressure is excreted on the Knob and increases as you progress to the center, then is released gradually as you exit the cut so it may look as if I straighten the board but in fact as I was jointing the 2 surfaces I included the sprung joint at the same time.
Re- the gluing there has to be a certain amount of pressure applied to enable contact to be made between the 2 surfaces of the sprung joint but once made you don't clamp the innards out of it as I've seen and done with PVA type glues, The degrees of gap on the joint is not massive as long as you can see some light coming through the middle part of the board and it's sealed at the top and bottom when mating surfaces are help together and facing a light source.
So it's Coffee at my place and NO Extension cords ALLOWED, We'll get you to the Darkside yet.
Take it easy mate and Stay Safe..
Cheers
Steve

Steve,
Last Monday one of the guys at our Men's shed brought in a table with cabriole legs, just like the one you made in series 1, where part of the leg shoulders had broken and asked me how to fix it.
So I referred him to your show and your U tube videos on how to fix it.
Peter.
