That car is coming along fantastic. Like the little set up for doing the wheels but please make a support to rest the tools on be careful as tools not designed for turning can be dangerous as the tang can break if you get a catch(would not like to see you hurt yourself), and I also hope you are not using good quality carving tools

Just had a quick squizz through the entire thread again.
This would have to be one of the most detailed Wips ever posted!!
Congrats on the detail of the WIP and the quality of the build. Coming along very well!!
Even more impressive is the favt that you use pinus radiata, which at times can be an absolute
bugger to work with!!!

Thank you!
@ Hermit - cheers mate, thanks for following this thread
@ crowie - thanks for comment, wheel making is a bit pain in the ####, so trying to make it once and right with multiple attempts
@ Dalboy - thanks for comment, lets keep it sweet and leave all the accident stories behind the scenes
@ artme - thanks mate, pinus radiata is grand wood to work with, It's my first wood I'm working with before mahogany so I have special relationships with it
stay tuned lads and thank you very much for you comments and for following this thread
and big thanks to those that are secretly following this thread and secretly spreading he word
hope to finish this build by Christmas!

chassis and wheels
tunnel inside body for chassis going through some makeover from wooden strips
putting together
both sides done, now time to see if chassis fits
fits perfect
chassis gets some aluminum acrylic paint, still experimenting by painting it in few layers with brush then sanding, polishing etc to see if I can match
polished aluminum look

chassis and wheels
rear wheels to be cut
cut and turned, 2 parts of wheels to be glued together to achieve super wide and cool wheel look for the back
glue on
pressed together for super strength so the wheels can withstand super high stress from powerful V type engine
cutting out middle part of the wheel from different color wood to see if I can achieve famous DMC alloy
trial fitted
super patience now, first sanded shape toothpick part ready to be glued on
done
have I achieved it?
3 more wheels to go if yes

wheels, chassis and bits
How about an update....OK, here we go!
Still working on bits and pieces at the back of the car, so only 2 rear wheels done. Decided to spray paint them with automotive aluminum paint.
Here's how it looks
time to cut some tread
one tire done, looking good, endless amount of hand cut tread grooves cut in one tire
both rear tire treads done
in order to keep going with rear suspension bits, wheel alignment etc, making 2 brackets that will keep chassis in place under car body
decided to DMC it
carved, painted, lacquer coated, polished, screwed on
and second bracket/badge -WCC [Wooden Custom Cars]
looking good
made a pair of spacers that I hope will work well as disc brake imitation

wheels, chassis and bits
and here's few bits done for rear suspension that was done few posts ago
piece of Guinness goes into rear axle
so aluminum from can wrapped around and dead glued
this will be glued on to axle on both sides as spacer/controller so the axle stays in middle position and be able to turn around
now this is how it all has turned out so far, some parts are painted in different colors - black, blue, aluminum
next week, will try to finish up wit rear of the chassis and front, stay tuned

Amazing scratch build, no way I'd have the patience for something like this, I'll stick to store bought placcy models.
Keep the pics coming, really enjoying watching this one grow, the tire tread and spoked rims are especially top notch!Michael

Hi lads, my apologies for being offline for a while. Haven't done much with my DMC build as it is at a bit complex stage at the moment where it will be dressed up with pine wood veneer before I take next step building front part of chassis with hopefully working steering. Have been a bit sick with cold etc lately so lost any interest at all to do anything with DMC build. Just didn't wanted to ruin all joy that I get building it. So decided to put it aside for December and enjoy everything else that festive season can give and get myself back on track for 2014. So far it is planned to not paint body of my wooden DMC, but have even pine wood veneer covering sides of the body. should be looking good when finished with all nice curves on fenders. Testing at the moment some cool varnish finishes for body.
Have short video attached where you can have a quick look how my DMC will meet 2014 and for you to have glimpse of how it looks in real life so far
Also latest images attached
Have a good Christmas everybody and smashing 2014 :thumbup2:
