    Teejay,

If you value your Domino, I would get Midge or Major to demonstrate it. The last time I used mine when Midge was present, I tripped over the cord and the Domino fell off the bench onto the concrete. Remarkably, it stll worked perfectly. But I am a klutz if I have any distractions.

Sorry to hear that Ivan won't be there; he always looks impressive in joint-testing photos

I do not have the ability to demonstrate anything as far as wood is concerned. However, I am quite happy to lead the cheering when the experts arrive.

Thanks Rocker - Midge has kindly volunteered

Yes Ivan whilst perched upon an elevated beam awaiting sudden collapse of the support does give that wonderful look of pre-empting pain upon impact from a short sharp drop that has yet to eventuate.

Unfortunately Mic-D has family visiting so won't be here either. But on a brighter note we may have another visitor or more to come along.

The only thing I want people to bring is their own drinks - we will take care of the rest.

If it is a nice day like today you can also bring your swimmers.

    See you all tomorrow.

PS Neil I think you (and Star) will want a dip after milling some larger burls
    Cheers

I would firstly like to say thankyou to all those that came to our place today for the gtg - SWMBO and I really enjoyed the event.

I hope you all made it safely to your home or next event - the weather tried it's best at times to make us feel it's presence - hot and steamy to start with then rain then wind and heavy rain hmmmm.

We had a great time regardless. Unfortunately we didn't get to do the domino or chainsaw mill demos as we were just busy eating, talking, dodging the weather and of course getting into the destructive tests of Rockers chair joints. These were really popular with everyone wondering the weight they would take. I think Rocker has some indicative values and we can convert them to effective load capaicities for the chair with different joints and timbers soon.

Pic 1 and 2 Big Splinter (Tom) is just heavy enough to break first joint

Pic 3 and 4 Feather weight Tom is replaced by a better load Sai Densai (Neil) Teejay as Bazza steady the plank and joint 2 is destroyed

Pic 5 Tom and Neil steady the plank as Soundman and creator Rocker stand eack end of the loading plank whilst Bazza and Teejay waltz in the middle of the plank - serious load applied here and it held for some time. When it did let go I was kinda lucky the real "Big Splinter LHS of Pic 6" didn't spike the back of my leg. Impressive load capacity there Rocker

Pic 7 Lucky door prizes are a plenty and Lucky Ruffly got first out of hat and pounced onto magazine collection given by Rocker.

Pic 8 Major winner was Major Mark who grabbed cd donated by Midge

Pic 9 Wattlewemake had a good pick-up of marking guage from Major - beautiful piece too.

Pic 10 Joe jumped onto one of Wendy's beaut books
    Cheers

Thanks for the day Teejay & SWMBO, had a ball and the food was great, as usual ate more than I should have (another new years resolution out the window ). Also good to catch up with SilentC and the other locals (some even in forum hats and shirts)

The rain may have cut short some demos, but that's a good excuse to have another BBQ. Gold Coast's turn next time, at my place mid to late Feb, I'll post some details under another thread.

    Thanks again.
    Neil

    Teejay,

Many thanks to you and Mrs Teejay for putting on an excellent gtg; I would also like to thank those who risked their limbs testing my mitre joints. I think the tests were successful in giving a clear indication that a well-built cantilevered chair frame has a generous margin of safety in normal use, since it took about 365 kg to break the strongest frame.

    Teejay,

We've just got in the door, thanks for a great day! Thanks also to all those that turned up and let me talk to them!

That bloke from Southern NSW doesn't know too much about bringing decent weather with him though does he?

    Cheers,

    P

You know Pete the funny thing was when the weather was at it's worst he just stood out under the awning in the mist and said "This weather is really pretty good" makes you wonder what pretty bad is

Rocker thankyou so much for the cd for the rocker built using domino - in time once I get a few projects about the house and a couple inside complete I will put this info to good use for a his and hers Rocker - much appreciated.

Your welcome Neil - if you get your mill before next gtg all well and good - if not just give me a buzz - that is if you are keen to slab those two burls you brought.

A few more pics of the lucky door prize recipients are-

Pic 1 Big Splinter (Tom) is the proud winner of a Ruffly "Black Book"

Pic 2 Bazza showing the Dai Sensai marker he has chosen.

Pic 3 Neil is now on the list to immortalise a Rocker rocker with the instructions now in hand.

Pic 4 Mr Simomatra is a rocker candidate too now as SWMBO looks with agreement as she should get a rocker too

Pic 5 Silent C quietly strides back with spike in hand

Pic 6 Major grabs a laminated Soundman handcaster and then says he will catch a fish this big - Wendy is suitably impressed.

Pic 7 Joe the magazine man knows a good read when he sees one.

Thanks guys for bringing the door prizes - I would like to personally thank Mr and Mrs Simo for the pen and matching perfume dispensor I chose and also Neil's mate Star for the Bunnings Vouchure I will put it to good use
    Cheers
