More Manly too. Also, what bloke wants to sleep in a room with cloth material, sewing gear and weaving looms??? Have you thought about replacing the brake winch with an electric boat winch, just a push button control then.

I'm starting to think you may have viewed this studio. It has all those things you mentioned, not that I know what they are and if I did I could not possibly admit to such knowledge as it would automatically preclude entry to the men's shed when I reach that stage.
I have an electric boat winch, but never considered it for this purpose. I don't think it would move the studio as I think the aggregate weight with equipment and fittings would be approaching 4Tonnes. Besides which, I don't think it would float. If I couldn't keep the rain out I am not confident it would float for a significant period of time.

Um I just interject here shipping containers do float sometimes.
I remember on the news a year or two back some fell off a container ship and ended up floating to New Zealand.
6 months in a leak container lol.
Also yes Kryn they can make incredible homes.
Paul i only just realised I followed your thread in regarding the studio build.
Not realising it was you
I should send you some pics one day of our shipping container build project.
Cheers Matt

Matt
The floating properties of the studio were severely compromised when I I cut three windows down one side and a new door in the other. Also New Zealand is much more receptive to boat (shipping container) people than Australia.
A lot of people don't realise it is me. In fact some days even I get up, look in the mirror and think "That is not me."
I would be very happy for you to post pix on this thread and if my memory serves me correctly ( alas, not always the case) I think you may have been building a house using shipping containers. I know you have a 40' container for your workshop and that in itself has elevated you in my estimation.
Not long ago I advised an unattached female friend who was installing a 20' shipping container that a woman with such a possession could become very attractive to the opposite sex. She giggled over the phone, but I have not seen her since. I see no reason why such container projects could not be included here without it becoming a case for criminal digression.

The studio
Very much a work in progress.
And please excuse the mess.
This is were we try to get to on the weekends away from Melbourne, trying being the word of choice.
I might one day to a thread on our container home build.
At present we have three 40 foot high cube containers.
2 are living zones kitchen, bathroom, lounge, bedroom.
The other container I have acquired 3/4 for my workshop and Sally has the other bit for her craft room.
But the boarder is a bit like the South China Sea.
Cheers Matt
I call it our white trash container home.

When I setup the bulky bins for water storage on the mobile shed it released a plastic 44g drum for the awning over the doorway.
I have in the other thread mentioned that water storage is a little bit obsessive for me. I think it is probably because I spent a little over the first thirty years of my life not even considering water and most likely being grossly negligent in it's use. There is none so righteous as the converted!
So this two square meters of roof has what I think in the old country was called a rain butt. If you think this is funny I suppose it could become the butt of many a joke. (Cringes!!) Please feel free...

Apologies for the pic on it's side. I have tried re-orientating and no matter how I do it the pic comes up like this .

What are you talking about, the Pic is the right way up, too much Bundy or XXXX, I think!!!!!
That's a very nice little Butt.
When I was referring to the Electric boat winch, it was to raise and lower the bed, to save you getting on you soapbox, and falling off.
Not moving the Studio with it

I did realise that about the winch. I was being my obtuse little self.
I think at the time of laying down the keelI had mislaid the remote for the winch. It is a small winch of 2000lbs I think and I have since found the remote, but still not used it in anger. However for now the manual set up will have to suffice. Luckily it is only required a couple of times a year, although I think one of those times is fast approaching.

I thought I was done with this thread, but just recently I decided to put a roof over the top of the studio. The purpose is twofold. Firstly to give some protection against the hot Queensland sun and secondly to enable water collection to top up a new garden pond. The eave also shades the windows. The roof has been painted with Penetrol prior to painting. All materials were recycled except for some roofing screws. The pitch of the gable is unequal (not an optical illusion.)
(The pix will show up as thumbnails at the foot for the moment. I'll correct tomorrow.)

The two old baths are part of the pond system where one cascades to the other down to the main pond in the ground. Rocks will eventually disguise the baths and a stream has yet to be created.

Very nice Paul,
You have to actually look hard to tell it’s a shipping container.
Really the only big give away are the lifting corner blocks(I’m sure they have a prober name.).
How does it feel with new roof, temperature wise, inside to before?
I think we might have to visit just to swap notes[emoji6].
Cheers Matt.

I haven't actually been inside it since I fitted the roof, plus it has been cooler of late. I am anticipating that any difference will not really be apparent until next year: If by then we can remember that far back!
Looking forward to your visit. You have a forty footer. We will discuss whether size matters!
Regards
Paul
PS: . I have some timber for you.Bushmiller;

Paul, looking good and as long as the better half is happy then all is well. I would be tempted to remove the gable ends to allow free air movement if it was me as the trapped air will transfer the heat into the container.

Paul,
You not being inside since the roof going on is this a state issue north against south,or does Leann just consider you staff now.(I know that feeling lol)
I think size doesn’t matter, but I will ask higher authorities [emoji849].
You have timber for me, well that’s going to more excitable restless nights[emoji41][emoji41].
Cheers Matt,
