well, this is a strange one.
went to charge the battery yesterday and the charger wouldnt allow it, got the flashing lights, even an hour later.
pretty much wrote it off, and put it in the shed. Today, i grabbed the battery for a "just one last check before i throw it" and it charged up, no problems.
so its got me buggered whats going on.

strange one.
i used the battery on wednesday with the LXT multi tool for a good part of the day, probably getting close to a full discharge.
Thursday i put the battery into the 13mm drill and did a hole with the holesaw and it was spent. I let it cool down for about 30-40 mins and put it on the charger and got the dreaded flashing lights.
i waited another hour and gave it a go, and still the lights flashed.
then today, put it on the charger and it charged up. Maybe it doesnt have the fusable link that blows like the makita original batteries have. I also suspect it may not even be the batteries, but some wiered thing the battery chargers have
that stops them from charging the batteries. who knows.
all i do know is i am safe for now. but it raises the point, what batteries should we get? the originals or the aftermarket ones.

Just bought two more NON Genuine batterys, this time, 4.0ah from Replacement Makita 18V 4.0Ah Lithium Ion Battery
and they are great. They last alot longer than the 3.5ah and seem to have alot more grunt in them for tools such as the rotary hammer drill and the grinder.
i am now running all aftermarket batteries and they have been great. I will keep posting up as i use them. Please keep in mind, i am a top end, heavy user, meaning the tools get used everyday. If i am not doing kitchens
i am renovating or doing stuff at home, so the batteries are constantly being drained or charged, not used one day and stored for the rest of the week.

This is probably an obvious question but I don't know the answer.
I have an 18v Makita cordless Li-ion drill (BDF453) which came with two 1.3Ah batteries (one of which has since died). Can I replace them with with the 3 or 4Ah generic batteries and will my existing Li-ion charger charge them?
Sorry for the hijack but I'm guessing others are in a similar position and it probably makes sense to have the question answered in here rather than start a new thread.
CorbsIt's only a mistake if you don't learn from it.

No problem Corbs, and the answer is yes to both.

the same thing happened again the other day, this time, the battery was on the handyvac for at least a month without charging and the wife had run it flat. i got the dreaded flashing lights on the charger, and so i put it on the drill and double checked
it to be flat, as well as to make sure all the other cells in the pack were flat. it ran for a minute or two before stopping. I chucked the battery into the freezer, just to cool it, then about an 30mins later i put it on the charger and it charged up like normal again.
its been on and off tools this week and has been charging up fine. Its one of the 3.5ah frontline trading batteries from last year.
Got me stuffed whats going on, but i do think the brains of makita charger is also part of the problem, and not just the makita genuine 3.0ah battery.

I think I may have had a weird episode like that a couple of months ago. It slipped my mind to report it here because it was quickly rectified.

Today I bought a Makita 1830, 18v 3Ah battery from Bunnings (Altona, Victoria) for $77. Normal price is $99.
Not sure why the price reduction but I thought it too good to pass up.

Ok, that's the current generation of Li battery but could be old stock and also competition from the specialty trade tool stores
The person who never made a mistake never made anything
