There would have been a lot of nice pens in that slab. I guess its worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I don't mind this style of table when it is executed properly but this looks very amaturish with little thought given to the aesthetics of the piece. An oil/wax finish would have been harder work on the natural edge but it would have softened the finish. For mine the slab is too thick which makes it look heavy, not physically heavy but it would dominate any area it was put into. Little to no thought was given to the legs and the base... do I need to go on? Good luck to the seller but IMHO its a monstrosity.

The execution is definitely not for me - but then again neither would 1000 pens made out of it be either, I'd prefer to see it used in in tool handles. OK the pen makers can have the scraps

I make my living out of gluing offcuts together in random order!!

To elevate this piece to a work of art
you would need to put it on a white box, shine some lights on it,
give it an ambiguous title (warriors in the void number 7)
and write an artist statement the length of a short novel
explaining that its not just a burl table but a metaphor for
the human condition yada yada yada

as for a slab cut probably with a chainsaw ....stuck together with silly glue ...sprayed with poly ....and called art ?....I think I will pass on that one ......and go find a mid 18th century cabinet to gaze at ...I would at least get my monies worth knowing what it took to put it together....

All I can think of is....... what a waste of tools & time...sanding disc's and how it reflects on the more elegantly produced pieces.
But, who am I to evaluate, classify or standardize someone else's work...my taste lies in a total other dimension..."Country Cottage" .... and hey...I really actually believe I do nice work....but cant sell my stuff at a half that price...would like to though......Ok...you don't have to twist my arm....it's yours for $1000....lol....dreaming......oh, by the way top lifts up for compartment under the lid...sorry, no photo of that will update it tomorrow...cheers....
