Definite code violation,
, or make him an administrator. I hear there's a job going, great pay and benefits.

Freeze ups
Why is it when I post a repiy to a thread and try to put a smilie in the post I get a imediiate freeze up in the computer,
and the caption at the bottom of the posting says woodwork Forum not responding go to web page, now this is a pain in you know where ,when you have written a longish article and included pics as well, I am wondering if any other member is having the same problem, this is not happening on other forums that i visit.

Does anyone else have their router monitor the websites being visited.
I now seem to get lots of requests to googlesyndication.com when I'm only viewing these forums.
Now I know it could be a virus checker, skype or java or something but maybe someone else can monitor theirs to save time chasing it down.
No google toolbar installed, no google desktop or maps installed.
Or maybe the admins can let us know if the new version is doing it or not.
Time to start running netstat -b to see whats going where...

OK, Just thinking about __Fly__'s post:
If you have a dispute with your internet service provider, the company you PAY to provide your internet service over how much you downloaded in the month, and you ask them to tell you what sites you have visited and the volume that you downloaded from each site, they cannot tell you.
Under the laws governing provision of internet services, this information is not available to the holder of the service and their customer service consultants. I am sure that the police can access this information from your internet service provider. but you cant under law.
Yet Google and others can just slip a cookie onto your computer and record all the sites you visit and target advertising based on what they perceive to be your interests based on the sites you visit.
Is it just me, or is there something wrong with that?
DougI got sick of sitting around doing nothing - so I took up meditation.

Ta DJ,
Hey I also set my editor to simple text and I can reply in firefox again.
Won't be able to attach but at least I can reply now.
I've FLICKED OFF (thats f l i c k e d before someone complains) the skim and we'll see if that changes anything. I don't mind having it on but my router was hitting it 6 or 7 times for every single hit on the forums. I just wanted to know where it was coming from
Ta again DJ

My 2c. Depends on how paranoid you are. I think cookies are relatively innocuous and actually assist with browsing. Remember, you do have the choice to not accept cookies at all. In the U.K. you have to, by law, display some sort of warning that the website uses cookies. Regardless of cookies or not, your visit to a website is logged regardless. Your IP address, your location, your browser etc, etc ,etc are collected and collated using some sort of stats counter. Just ask the admin here what sort of information is collected
So, if you're ultra-paranoid about all this, head onto the TOR Project (<- click) and put your mind to rest. Ultimately your information can only be compromised by what information you, yourself enter. Your online self is the same as your actual self, conduct yourself wisely.-Scott

I think we all need to get back on topic or the issues that need fixing will be lost in other discussions.

Yup, happened to me last night but not from the main panel on the right. The freeze occurred when I clicked on the 'more' link and tried to insert a smiley from there.
