As the load reduces on the server we are hoping these issues will gradually go away.

I think I'm the one Groggy is referring to. I was having trouble viewing attached photos using IE8. The photos wouldn't load properly, nor would the Next, Prevoius or Close buttons work. I tried Compatability Mode, clearing the cache, logging off anogging back on, three different types of refresh and nothing worked. I then went to Tools>Internet Options>Advanced>Reset to reset my browser to default settings. I was a bit worried that I'd lose everything, but it was relatively painless, just make sure you have all your user names and passwords handy as they'll be lost. Since resetting I've had no trouble viewing any pictures .

Despite temptation, I'm not going to bucket IE except to say that wouldn't it make more sense if users with IE problems use another browser? Especially when things like this occur:

Microsoft urges computer users to install security tool

Both the following are free, are without the 'compatibility' mode, are faster (to load forum) and more secure:

    Mozilla Firefox Web Browser
    Google Chrome

    Just a thought.

Admin has been unable to offer any solutions either (Firefox and Chrome users do not seem to suffer the same issues).

I am running IE 9.0.8112.16421, and I do not have this issue.

I'm having the same problem with the slideshow viewer. Thought it was just me.
Most times, the first picture loads successfully in the slideshow window, but 'Close' never works and I have to refresh the page to remove the slideshow popup.

I won't be resetting my browser to default settings, though, or other things will stop working. If resetting all advanced settings works, then logically there must be one or two settings in 'Advanced' that are wrong. Shouldn't need to change the lot.

Anyone have any clues as to which setting(s) might need changing for the slideshow viewer to work properly?

    Running IE8.0.6001 under XP SP3.

This is exactly what was happening to me, I was also having other issues with the previous version of VBulletin. I found that the resetting to default cured all the issues I was having. I'm thinking that maybe something got corrupted or that maybe the initial install was not done properly, whatever the reason for the problems the reset fixed the issues. I don't see why resetting the browser to default would cause things to stop working, but anything is possible I suppose.

I might try some experimenting with the settings, one at a time, and see if I can get the slideshow viewer working.

Strangely, if I press the browser's 'Stop' button when the second picture in the slideshow fails to load, then press 'Close' on the slideshow popup, nothing happens, but if I then press 'Next', the slideshow moves on to the next image without problems. Weird stuff.
It does exactly the same in 'Compatibility View'.

FWIW, I'm using OSX 10.8.1, using Safari & Chrome and I think the forum is performing (loading etc) better than before the update.

So am I on my pat with the refresh speed thing? Just now it took over a minute (and again, all other tabs for email, news etc refresh at normal speed).

    Firefox, Windows XP.

No problems with slide shows or anything else, and starting to really enjoy some of the extra functionality.

Sometimes if I cancel the refresh and restart it again manually it's quite quick. Maybe these are the times when the server is taking a breath or summint.

All seems to be working mostly well for me except I'm still occassional experiencing website freeze while posting a "quick reply" even in "advanced mode"...
PLUS could I please ask for a tutorial on the easy & correct way to post attachments, thank you [I've managed to do it but it was a struggle]...
    cheers, crowie

I just wanted to say I was able to do an "Insert Image" just now .. so extra "Well done"s to the admins.

... they're probably having a Bex and a lie down right about now ...

    - - - - -

Re attachments ... for an unofficial answer ...

First you need to change to "Go Advanced" ...

I would go down the page to "Manage Attachments" ... but I see now that there is an Attachments icon right above the Message window.

OK - it is exactly the same thing. Cool. Save me scrolling down.

Bring up the Attachments 'Popup', and click on "Add Files" and then "Select Files" when the little window appears.

You can select multiple files in the same directory, unlike previously.
And if you want to add files from different directories, keep choosing "Select Files" until you are done.
    Finally choose "Upload Files".

In that small window you can also switch back and forth from 'files from your Computer' to 'file from a web address (URL)'.

There is also the option of "Basic Uploader", but I'm not sure why you'd use it - and when you choose it you are then stuck on that option until you quit out and re-select "Manage Attachments" again.

If your file is already in your 'stash' on screen, then you can just drag it out again for the current message.

    - - -
I mentioned before (above) about getting a particular order to the files you are attaching ... cos it doesn't work that way first off.

The first time I went through deleting ten files from the bottom box one at a time ... but I noticed today that when they've been uploaded and were all highlighted blue then deleting one file got rid of all of them.

If you then drag the files you want from 'the stash' to the lower box - in the order you want - they will stay that way.

    Hope this helps,
    Paul

Heh heh heh ... ahem ... I forgot one thing (at least) ...

As I said ... "Insert Images" wasn't working for me before ...

That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

    - - -
You don't have to change to Advanced to
    - insert images from your computer
    - insert image from a URL
    - insert video from a URL

But the images won't come up in a given order (I think).
You would have to "Go Advanced" and do the above to re-sort them if that's what you wanted.

    Cheers,
    Paul
