Carry Pine - Probably has nothing to do with the number of pic you have posted overall but the number in one post. That message usually appears when you have posted something which has been cut n pasted from word or a similar doc publisher. To avoid this problem you should compile/edit your post in the forums message box then you shouldn't have that problem.

If you must compose away from the forums message box do it in plain text format then paste it. Most symbols from word are counted as pics.

I depends a bit on how many portrait shots you post because you can only post 600 pixels high but landscapes can be 800 pixels wide. Why is that? This makes all portrait shots smaller than lanscape shots. That's discrimination! Surely it should be based on image size rather than pixels ?

    Default Help still needed

    The problem continues:

When I post a picture now (singular) I get the message that the sum of my attachments is 923.3 kb and the red line goes almost all the way across the page. I have deleted pictures in my attachments over the last 3 years but this has made no difference.

I resize all my pictures to the point where there is little detail when they are 'blown up'.

Other members don't seem to have a limit of pictures that they post and it is very difficult if I want to show work in progress with only one picture per post.

Hoping someone can help. I give any moderator permission to open my 'account' to see what the problem is.

CP, it sounds like your pictures are still to large, each picture must be under 100kb, the
923.3kb you're quoting sounds like it's for one picture. Also your previous attachments have no bearing on your uploads.

Can you give us a screenshot (press PrtScn on the right at the top of your keyboard and save as jpg in paint by opening edit in paint and clicking paste and then save under file) of the message your getting when you try to upload a picture.

Also what program are you using to reduced the size of your pictures?
    Cheers

I was wondering about my quota:

You are currently using 35.79 MB to store 876 uploaded attachments.
The other thing that pings you, is that smileys are considered to be an image, in a post as well and there's a limit of 8(?) images per post I think.

    Cheers,

    Here goes, DJ's Timber....

Well pressing that button 'print screen' does (I won't say it) nothing. I tried saving the message as a Word document but like when i post pictures it says I'm over my limit by23KB. I even took the list of attachment types off and i was still over by 21KB.

the program i use to store photos is JASC paint Shp Photo album and I reduce my pictures down to 100 acroos now. In the old days i reduced them to 700 and they worked fine.

Will persevere in trying to send you the message I receive... and that is before I upload anything. its like 'You have exceeded your limit already - that's why i took the photos off my old posts.

Other people, please don't hijack the thread until I get this sorted. Thanks.

After you have press PrtScn, you then need to open Paint and then follow the instructions I gave you above. Pressing PrtScn is the first step but nothing happens till you open Paint and the edit>paste

    Carry,

I've had a look but this is out of my domain. I'll make sure that those who might be able to help are aware of the problem.

When I press Print Screen and Open paint I don't have the option of using any of the edit facilities except on a picture that is displayed. I need to click on a picture and then I can do anything to it. Wherever that screen is printed- I don't know. If I knew where it was I would edit it.

When you open Paint, it should come up with a blank canvas.

All you have to do is either press CTRL-V or got to the Edit menu and select Paste to stick what PrtScr has already copied into the blank.

    Make sense?

    G'day,
Posting photos or images to Forums or Websites etc., isn't fully understood by the average "poster". Hence I hope these few pointers might be of help. Please understand that there is a big difference between image size (pixels width and pixels height) and file size (Kb). I do a lot of Website designing and use a free tool online to optimize images for viewing on websites. The following is a quote lifted from the page i'm about to direct you to where the free tool is:

    "Image Optimization

The SiteReportCard Image Optimization tool is a free utility that compresses your GIF, JPEG, and PNG images. Decreasing the file size of your web images will increase the download speed of your web pages without affecting image quality!

Enter an image or graphic (GIF, JPG, PNG) that you would like to optimize and our software will compress and display the image at various sizes and levels of image quality."
    (end quote)

Most photos are in a resolution for hard copy printing yet image quality for screen viewing even on hi-res screen, needs only be at a small fraction of that without loosing quality.

Try it by going to the page, press Browse near the Upload File window is and you'll look where on your computer you have the file; select the file; and upload it. You wait a few minutes and it will come back with about 10 images exactly the same size but with varying quality. You pick which is the lowest file size that hasn't any noticeable deteriation. You select and save that one to your computer and this is what you use to put into your post here.

    Hope this helps out.
    Regards,
    Rick

    Another attempt:

Followed Skew ChiDAMN's steps but (for others who lack the expertise) my Paint program comes up with a paint promo and an offer to do the tour. Close this and you get the pictures on my desktop. No access to cut and paste. it was only when i closed this page that i was allowed to paste. See the results. Thanks Skew, it was worth persevering.

This is the message I now get BEFORE loading any image (whatever the size).

Well done Graham, from looking at that, I reckon that something is wrong with your settings on the forums server. As Wood Butcher said yesterday, that part is out of our hands.

We need someone with higher access then we have, will bring it to their attention and try to get it sorted for you.
    Cheers

    Carry Pine.

Go to www.corel.com and get a trial download of Paint Shop Pro 12. lasts one month.

It has an import tool, (screen capture)

I never have any problem posting pics from there, I use the export option after I have manipulated my photo and save it at "my pictures" to post to web etc.

Just went and had a look at Paint and if you are using the send command you most probably wont be able to post. I did a screen print command pasted at Paint and then used send and got a 1.56mb file at my email post option.
