Thread: Is Foxtel worth it?

We were thinking of getting it particularly for the How To channel but it sounds as though this channel isn't that good although when I looked at the monthly program guide it didn't look too bad. We are being driven to payTV because of the unbelievably poor television on the Free to Air garbage which is aimed at the 18 to 30 market but it amazes me that even they'll watch that stuff.

It's not something I'd get for m'self because I don't watch enough television to make it worthwhile, but daughter just bought it for her 94 year old grandfather, and he certainly gets her money's worth - mainly sport, national Geo and information channels. Best present she could have chosen.

this one has competetive costs and best of all no contracts..........

we dont use the TV a lot so no need for it though like the lineup so could be a choice later

I used to install it, so had a free service, which was just as well cause it sure ain't worth paying for! The first month or 2 it's OK until the interminable repeats start to become familiar. As I'm not a big sport watcher (prefer doing to watching, on the whole) and I don't want the kids completely square-eyed, there's no value in it for me.

Well it has kept my mother-in-law quiet for the past fortnight. So that's worth the annual fee in itself .

I used to be a motel dweller and that turned me right off pay TV, blatant never ending self promotion, just as you thought a movie was about to start it was yet another ad telling you what a great choice you had made in choosing XX channel.
Used to drive me mad.
The only redeeming feature I found was after driving to SA and feeling buggered I would fall asleep in front of the TV, but, at 6.30am I could pick up where I left off for an hour or so and that night at the next motel finish the movie.
As earlier stated, new release movies, but they don't tell you they go on for about three months beofre a new one arrives.Stupidity kills. Absolute stupidity kills absolutely.

Hi,
So what did happen to the decent lineup of woodworking shows that attracted us to Foxtel in the first place? At one stage there were a collection of them, and some were quite good for more advanced woodworkers. These days, it seems there are only repeats of Wood Works (and how can anyone realistically actually be doing stuff in a workshop in a business suit anyway?) and Tools & Techniques which was never particularly good, as it glosses over the top of the subjects, and the host deliberately seems to 'dumb it down' way too much (to the point that he seems to insult his guests).
Can we please cater for a wider range of activities - we are not all renovating a house or garden, or scrapbooking it. Personally, more woodworking, metalworking (and not the artistic stuff, real practical structures), photography (and again, cater for a wider audience, not just the novices).
I used to have the How To channel on almost continually, yet for the last 6 months or so, I cannot honestly remember turning it on once. I miss it, and would like to have some reason to switch back.

Their reply:
Hi Stuart,
Thanks a lot for the feedback. We do like to hear from our viewers whether it be positive or negative. We are constantly on the lookout for good woodworking shows and surprisingly they are difficult to find. We are looking at making an Aussie woodworking show soon so stay tuned for an update on that. Hopefully we can add a few more woodworking shows to the line-up in the coming months as we know there is a big following out there.
Thanks again for taking the time to write to us and we hopefully there will be a number of shows coming up that will bring you back to the HOW TO Channel.
So guys & gals, start emailing, and lets get them focused back onto subjects WE want to see!"Clear, Ease Springs"
