Not knocking the Forum, not knocking the members, not knocking the moderators, not knocking the proprietors. Simply voicing a dissenting opinion regarding what I see as un-necessary censorship of commonplace and descriptive expletives, in moderation.

This is one of the best sites on the Net. Darren (SilentC) got it right - it's not a democracy - it's a benevolent dictatorship. That's fine by me. If I step out of line occasionally and feel the weight of the moderator's axe, I'm quite prepared to wear it if it helps keep these forums alive.
Bodgy - you're perfectly entitled to express a dissenting opinion. Just don't get too precious about what you see as censorship.
does a great job and has my full support.

I agree with Gumby, Bitingmidge and others. There is no doubt that a lot of words I have used as an apprentice in the metal industry are now becoming common place (although not all of them). And so be it – things change. The point I wish to make is that we have to be aware of the feelings of others. It is difficult for me to understand that some people want to offend in this way.
With regard the comment made on a grandchild wearing certain words on the T shirt, if that’s where their at that’s fine, and they can obviously wear it in front on their parents and grandparents. I wouldn’t know if my grandchildren wore this sort of shirt and this is my point – I wouldn’t know because they would not wear it in front of me – consideration for others is what it is about, not the word or words themselves.

Most of what I would say has already been said before in that other thread and doesn't need repeating again.
But to make it perfectly clear, I , and many others, object to swearing. I don't do it and I wouldn't tolerate anyone swearing in my house. Neither do I appreciate reading it on these forums. And I also think that any attempt to substitute symbols or other specific characters for it isn't any better. To me it is still swearing , either actual or implied.
Generally I don't make an issue over it but in that other thread it was claimed that nobody objected to swearing and therefore I posted my views. Now I don't think I'm too thin skinned or unreasonable in this matter.
There are long standing rules that apply to this board. Everyone should know what they are. They are posted in the FAQ and above each forum. If members don't know them they should not be members.
To help those people that can't live without swearing the Administrators gave them the O room where they can go for their lives. Whilst I disagreed with it the majority wanted it. So be it. But why can't the swearers keep their profanities in the place now provided for them rather than in the general forums where it annoys lots of people.
No wonder gets upset. And Bob is right when he pointed out that the forum could close if the moderators job gets too hard.
So instead of trying to extend the boundaries everytime read the rules and stick to them.
Peter.

Being fairly new to this forum, I think that and the others that make this place function, are the equivilant to the Police service, in that they are friendly and tolerant of all who visit and take part in this forum. The rules of this forum are the common laws, as in any community you break them you pay the penalty, the only difference is if we continually abuse the system in society they come down hard, very hard, here they just might walk away!....Is that what we want?...No!...First thing I did was to read the rules, as I very quickly found this forum and it's members to be generous, witty and experienced in most things wood, but most of all was the mateship and the ability to welcome new members without question!......I wish I could live here!...sounds like paradise to me!

I don't think so Al. If so, it wasn't a good one. I don't give them out much either.
I seriously doubt he is 60 either. It just doesn't add up. The tone of the posts, the abreviations, an ICQ number. Nah, he's much younger than that.If at first you don't succeed, give something else a go. Life is far too short to waste time trying.
