Crimson is reddishmagentacolor between red and rose on the color wheel. You can make it by combining a strong, bright deep red with a little blue. It is originally the color of the dye produced from the dried bodies of a scale insect, Kermes vermilio.

Navy blue or navy is a dark shade of the color blue. Some people mistake navy blue for black because some navies (such as the United States Navy) use a shade of navy blue that is so dark it is practically black.

Would anyone suggest using the Jo Sanja's Clear Glaze Medium ( a light surface sealer) to keep the dark colors from washing out?

If using powder dyes??? Try mixing a bit of powder in rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol)
The color becomes vivid, plus it dries on the wood almost instantly

OK finished preparations.

Went out to use the UBeaut Dyes and realized I had no idea even where to start mixing.

I'm after the Crimson (blood) red and the Navy (dark) blue.

I've got 7 - 1.5" x 37" pine to cover.
Do I use the whole sample into a jar and mix 1 to 1 water?

"Just start mixing" doesn't work for me.

Any positive constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.


Note: Seal the wood lightly (delicate) - to show grain - Use Jo SonJa’s Clear Glaze Medium - two coats
Sand lightly with 320 to 400 sand paper

And a single coat as a finish
then a paste wax

oops! Glad I came back in.
Almost forgot I was going the scorch pine to bring out the grain.

Darn. Of course I only have the pin point flame to heat up band saw blades to red hot to solder back together.
