Your air compressor should have no trouble working the guillotine. What pressure is the air going to the guillotine set for? How much of a slice of timber are you cutting with each chop?

The other thing that I noticed is that the air cylinder returns the blades to full height each time. In the original foot operated mode a stop on the pedal limited this stroke. In your case the full stroke of the cylinder will be wasting a lot of air that your compressor needs to supply.

As for the blade lifting the timber on the return stroke, this is normally prevented by the fact that you hold the timber down with your hands when cutting. In your case I would look at fitting some clamps to hold the timber (like the sort that are fitted to SCMSs). This would give you a more accurate cut while keeping your hands away from the blades.

Can I use silicon instead of wax on the blade to keep the workpiece from sticking?

I'e found a sharpening service in the UK for Morso specifically.
Another comment was you had to be very careful and sharpen Morso blades the Morso specific way.
Could have been a sales tactic.

I'm wondering if a trick of the trade is to use the softer hardwoods?

The other method is to use your SCMS to cut to length within about 1-2 mm and then the guillotine to trim to final dimension

Starting at :35

While the blades are down,
move the blade notch lever to the left to pull the blades back off the work piece.

Allow the blades to rise while still pulled away from the workpiece.

Move the blade notch lever to the right so the blades align to the next cut position.

It takes some getting used to.
But after a few iterations it gets easier.

I was wondering why, other than convenience, one of the switches was on the lever.
Now I know.

Fitted my new blades.
Finally a clean cut.
So much better.

I need to find a way to afix the work piece in a fixed position.
The work piece was NOT pine.
It was some sort of darker coloured harder wood.

I think the last cut was to short to clamp.

One of the videos mentioned the stock you buy for frames comes in 2 x 9' lengths.

6 cuts seemed spot on.
The other two were off.
grrrr. still learning.

Are the frames supplied at the picture framers shop made of more stable timber.
Like mdf, etc?

I was surprised to find my regular saw blade sharpener knows how to hallow grind my Morso-F guillotine blades.
Reasonably affordable as well.

I believe "custom wood" is mdf by another name.

How funny is that!
I got up this morning thinking I should be testing and aligning the guillotine with mdf work pieces.

Had to put the guillotine away.
Sharp blades are so much better.
But way too long to fit the blades perfectly.
And still not perfect joins.

I'm absolutely sure its me not being in the know with the trade.
Don't know the secret handshake or have the sacred books or secret word.
(I've tried all the four letter words. Still not happening.)

So broke down and built another mitre sled for the table saw.
A much smaller one this time.

No five cut method as I really needed to to accomplish a goal.

So the conclusion at the moment is I'm not capable of producing perfect miter cuts.
I'll move on to the next step and try to find a way to hide them.
