Can recall," squashing," my left thumbnail years ago with a heavy, ( 28oz ), Claw Hammer,- can't remember exactly," how ?," but do recall being interupted by a visitor just as I was swinging the hammer,- result one squashed thumb which required stitching, and the removal of a mashed thumb-nail, at the local hospital.
Cabinetmaker mate of mine, absent-mindedly drilled a 3/16" hole once right through his left thumb, nail, bone, and all, with his bench drill. There was no repeat performance ever !!!!!!!!!!!
Have had pieces of thin timber," Flicked," back at me ovr the years by the 235mm. saw on my Triton Workcentre,- copped several, " wacks," in the ribs, and ducked several others, but nothing serious as yet, ( " touch wood " )
Do know of a School Woodwork teacher who wasn't looking what he was doing, and sliced a thumb on the Bandsaw in front of his students,- while giving the kids a lecture on, " Safety procedures in the workshop !!! "

HMMM a thin piece of wood gets thown by a tablesaw.....well there is a surprise.
Me thinks the proceedures where not all that good.

As for the bloke cutting his thumb off with a radial arm saw hardly an uncommon thing...that would have to be the single most likely of radial arm injuries followed by being smacked in the chops by the overfeeding carrage.

There used to be a link to a multipage list of US table saw accidents on here somewhere....just one after the other...some of them you would swear only happened in cartoons

Prolly the only upside of liquidating all my tools...I can't slice and dice any of my protuberances anymore. Mind you my fishing forays haven't been exactly drama free
