This is one I completed last .I called it "prison"
Silky oak,Qld maple,Red cedar Jacaranda White beech.

ok,,, l made this while traveling around N/T for 3 months had no tools so l used a a small axe .So realy this was my first carving didn't take up carving for about 3 years after it
You know how it is on holies you go to a few talks and things well one was on how they made didgeridoos so l went out and made me one
got the photo album out to have a look what a great trip 2 kids under 4 and the two of us in a tent for 3 months there is a good shot of me at Trephina Gorge with my axe chipping away and yes l can play it

it's of a wood spirit trying to hold the wood from decaying away ,he is looking up to his right hand which is just about to rot off on as he gives his energy he him self is disappearing .Hopfuly making this sculpture will help his battle with time

"Mr Jones, enraged at the worlds failure to recognise his importance"
silver ash, red cedar, stands about 700mm
I think I needed to get away from the heroic and idealised figure.
besides I knew a bloke just like him

Some snaps of a walking stick I made for my sisters friend, the cross head is a piece of antler, the joining ferule is a copper water pipe fitting........unfortunately, I haven't yet found the name of the tree that the shaft comes from. Was out driving in the back blocks and crossed a small dried creek where there was a mini forest of these trees, they grow to about 15 feet or more, very straight and seldom more than 2 or 3 inches across the base of the trunk. When dried, the wood is hard and not too heavy, and the bark stays tight. Will venture out that way again soon and see can I get some leaves etc. and get someone to identify them for me. Thanks for reading this.

This was my second attempt.

I took home from the carving weekend a plan for a wall mounted torso. I thought if I followed up the school with a second attempt I might remember more of the techniques.

It was a bit easier because there was only the front half to carve.

It is a great piece of cedar with pronunced growth rings that show off the high points.

It is about 600mm tall and hangs in the hallway near the front door.

I've only just finished the bust of my dad's head. The wood is chilean myrtle and is finished with 5 coats of shellac. This is my first go at a bust and as a bonus it actually looks like dad. It satnds 300 mm high

Malaita Man carved several years ago whilst farming on Guadalcanal.

Kerosene wood 650mm high.

Needs a touch-up as bits missing as a result of many re-locations.

here is one that sits near the front door ,it was carved from a peice of wood that was lying down the back rotting away .It is called Habitat

The back of it l tried not touch it to much ,so then it went in the garden hopfuly a similar eco-sysyem will move in .....stands about 1 M

My version of the Scobie one legged stool.

Lots of timber to move on the leg and the seat.

The blackwood chips away quickly with the arbortec. Then you get a good smooth finish when it is sanded.

I expected the blackwood to come out in chunks because it has a tendance to tearout. It was a good timber to carve.

Hello,
Here's another one, drastic change in scale. Its called Pliersaurus, is articulated so it operates like real pincers; about 300mm long, carved form Hoop pine in several sections (7 or so) and pieced together with Araldite and pins. Also added some stainless wire and electronic parts. I painted it in a distressed layered look as if it had heaps of use....obviously by a Shaman mechanick.

The dancer I call J Lo for obvious reasons.

I like the way the strong grain of the cedar complements the strong pose.
