I've got a couple of small stones that I use for small dings and suchlike. Rub something like this over any burrs and they come down pretty quick. So long as you keep in-plane with the side there's little chance of removing too much material, though you may need to go over the edge gently to keep it contiguous with the rest of the undamaged edge.

I reckon half the patina on planes comes from the tears when they are dropped for the first time.

I would like to thank everyone who made a positive ccontribution out of those I chose Derek's advice and it it turned out really well.

Unfortunately the corners are indented as you can see from the pics below, I'm not sure if this will have any adverse effect when using it but it's square and flat.

Yes but you heal, I am one of the heathens that work bare foot (I hate shoes always have) in the workshop and I still put my foot out to stop a chisel from hitting the floor. I do not advise anyone to do this it's just me.
