I'm not sure Trav. A couple of things that I haven't mention so far:

    1. When sanding it initially, I found it a stretch to belt sand the top by standing on the side. So I hopped on top. In hindsight the 2 halves of the top weren't fastened together, and hence not as strong as if they had of been. (I was waiting for the fasteners to arrive from Rockler). So I'm wondering if I inadvertently bent the runners by a tiny bit.

    2. When filling the holes with epoxy, I took a short cut. I covered the bottom of the holes with duct tape instead of turning the table upside down, removing the runners, and doing the job properly. Some epoxy leaked through and went into the runners. When I tried screwing the top apart it was ceased fast. I ended up buying new runners...a costly reminder of why short cuts are poor practice at times. I did however add more angle steel, so instead of the angle finishing level with the 1/2 top, it's full runner length.

    3. With the new runners and extra steel I've had no issues extending or contracting.

I've thought of putting thin plastic cutting board under the legs to assist it to slide on the floor when extending/contracting. Haven't decided yet tho.

Well a high quality table wouldn't be complete without chairs. So I've started making matching dining chairs.

Unfortunately I can't get any more of the recycled Aust Oak, so I've chosen new Tasmanian Oak.

The legs and main stretchers are 45mm x 65mm, with the slats being 65mm x 18mm.

The seat will be 3/4" ply with foam padding and dark brown leather over.

Any feedback is appreciated. This is my 1st ever chair!!
