Yes, the reason that I left that larger part at the bottom was for strength to the frame while carving and I have't yet decided on the background, weather to leave it as is, or to just have a white background like shmbo said either way I intend to cut that bit off.
The diamond shape is so he is raceing down the mountain side after "REGRET's" colt and the rest of the mob, with it on the flat he is just another horseman cracking a whip,I positioned the drawing wrong when I traced it on to the piece of timber
what do you think about the back ground, use the transparentcy like Ive got or just the plain one? thank you for your comments CD.

I like the cutout because I expect to see the valley forest below.
Since you have a strong drawing, and now some experience and hindsight, do another one.

I have learned how to spell 'snowy.' As in: 'snowy everything, all day.'
I live in a little village of maybe 475 tucked away in the Canadian Rockies.
Peaks around the village 7,000 - 9,000 feet. On the east side of my house,
you have to sit down to see the tops.
Winter is my wood carving season.
I'll do some stone carving outdoors and look after my grapes in the summer.
In my Uni days (LaTrobe/PhD), I spent a lot of my spare time up on the Bogong High Plains.
Walked as far in the winter as the Cleve Cole Hut. Did I spele that right?
