Alex, a quick question if you don't mind - I set up my disc sander so that there's absolutely no play in the mitre guide, but still find that when trying to do this, the surface ends up very slightly rounded from one side to the other, instead of a dead flat cut.
I use a velcro-backed setup, and on inspection I found that the disc surface wasn't flat - the velcro has 'settled' in the more used areas. (The metal disc is definitely flat and true.)
Do you use a velcro-backed disc? Any other tips for doing this?
Thanks in advance.
(Sorry for the partial hijack, Joe.)... Steve

Hi Steve, My sander is velcro backed, and I don't have any problem with rounding. I don't use the mitre guide, I've made a fence that I clamp to the sander table. Then I can check that the table is square to the disc, and the fence is square to the table. I test the 45 using two pieces that I sand using the fence, then check that they are accurate by putting them together and checking that they make 90 deg.
Hope this helps.

Yes, it does help. Thanks Alex.
I only tried it once, but had bad results. I have some mitred box sides that need a slight adjustment, (1/2mm too long for the floating panel), so this topic is in my mind at the moment
So you push the timber straight into the disc along the fence, rather than sliding the timber across the surface of the disc with the mitre guide. I'll have to try that, but first I think I'll buy a new velcro backing disc and some discs. Currently, I have an 80g disc on it, but I guess finer would be better for this?... Steve

Saw blade
I use a Freud blade on the drop saw, the Festool mitre saw has its own blade and I use a Hammer/Felder blade on my pannel saw.
If you speak with the saw Dr or whoever sharpens your blades, they can alter the cut to whatever angle you wish. I use Dominics in Cairns, he will customise if you wish.
Hope this helps mate.
