WW, It wouldn't hurt for the seller to endorse the manual with the shop name, date of purchase and a signature.

It would be interesting to query the legal status of a store issuing receipts that are known to fade with the ACCC, and find out just what the case is with a blank piece of thermal paper!

You raise an important issue that I never previously considered. If a retailer expects you to keep a receipt for warranty claims and the warranty period exceeds the physical life of the receipt, surely they are obliged to provide a more resilient receipt at the time of purchase.

Maybe if everyone demands a proper receipt, retailers/till manufacturers will be forced to lift their game.

I scan all receipts and file them away on the computer.

This is what I have also been doing for years. This also gives me a quick reference to see what I own and not purchase a duplicate item if memory fails me .

It is stupid that they give you something that fades away. I always thought that to maintain the warranty you needed to keep the original proof of purchase.

I would hate to see the argument if a photocopy of the "original" thermal receipt was not accepted under a warranty claim!

Most warranties ask for original proof of purchase. They could possibly be within their rights to refuse a copy. Dont know about a certified copy. You would think, in this day and age, they could come up with something better than a vanishing receipt. Ahhh retailers, what would we do without them?

Going with the axe-weilder and WW on this one. Ask for a tax invoice. Having said that, it may be worth checking the Bunnies receipt as it may constitute the same.

If that's the case it's back to square one.

Just found a couple of bunnies receipts from 2010 this morning and they are still legible if a little faded. Perhaps the sales girl was a saboteur.

Thermal paper rolls are cheap,only let down they fade if left in bright lights,dont know why they dont print receipts on plain paper,Bunnings being the cheapskates they are probably buy thre thermal stuff for next to nithing.

Plain paper printers require ink, either in the form of an inkjet that blocks up or runs out or in the form of a ribbon that jams or runs out.
Thermal printers are more reliable, shame about the life of the output.

I wonder if there is a "fixer" you can spray on! Kinda like photographic stop bath or something! Glen 20 maybe?
