Hello,
Hoping someone might be able to advise on this:
I got myself an older model TRA001, it says made in Australia. It doesn't have the winder-adjust capability from above the table. I don't have the original manual, only the box. It has a switch on the rack and pinion instead of a button like the newer ones I see on YouTube. The switch has two settings: a lock and an open lock.
I can make it wind up and select and lock into the graduations in the rack and pinion, but I can't seem to make it do the free-plunge action.
Switching the switch doesn't allow me to free-plunge. I don't know if it's jammed or broken - or maybe is the free-plunge option only on the newer models?
It might be some simple thing I'm missing, if anyone out there has an older model could you advise?
Thanks, Steve.

I'm hoping someone else will chime in and assist here but just in case...
I also have the original Australian workhorse; it has spent 99% of it life in a table but I have on very rare occasions used it by hand. To be frank I preferred the rack and pinion rather than the plunge even in hand mode...
I still have the original instruction book; from memory in order to change the action from rack & pinion to plunge you have to PUSH the button in, and THEN give it a turn. Possibly while pulling the rack wheel in at the same time; have a go anyway.
I'm currently 400k's from home and not back till Wednesday evening; if no- one else has provided the answer before then PM me and I'll drag the instructions out from the binder in the shed.Nothing succeeds like a budgie without a beak.

The orange switch for want of a better word is what you need to turn. You have to push it in a few millimeters and turn clockwise about maybe 20 degrees. This will disengage the rack & pinion and allow the free plunge.
On mine it will push in quite easily but is quite stiff to turn, but a bit of jiggling will get it there. Hold the black handle firmly as you push and turn the switch. When the switch is in the correct position you shouldn't be able to pull the orange ring in on the other side of the black handle.
Hope this makes sense.
