Grunt, May I Hi-jack your thread a bit more.. ..It'll happen anyway. We picked up "Jacks" from the RSPCA just after Christmas. He's a two year old male kelpie/border collie who was taken from the previous owner for reasons undisclosed but he "was" very thin.

He's great with the kids, loves the car. beach and walks. He seems to learn very fast. I don't know how anyone in there right mind could see to mistreat such a great mate.

BTW at $250.00 with micro-chip, sterilisation, vaccinations, worming and vet check adopting a dog from the RSPCA can be a better deal than many of the shoddy breeders around.

    Cheers

Are you struggling with the basics (Ie don't know how to get started) or is there a specific problem you are having?

hate to admit it but its the basics. Im really new to forums like this and dont use the pc for pleasure, only business, so your help would be apprteciated. Ive probably missed something very obvious somewher in the forum so apologies in advance for wasting your time if thats the case.

No, it's not entirely straight-forward and some of the help is a bit out of date.

There are probably 2 ways to add you own pic to your post and it depends where the pic is and what you want to do with it.

If the pic is on your PC then you can add it blicking on the Manage Attachments button that is close to the bottom of the new thread/post page. Click on the browse button and select the file and then press upload. You can add a number of pics but there is a 100k limit to these files and they appear at the bottom of your post.

If you want a larger pic to appear in the middle of the post then the picture needs to be on the internet somewhere. This may mean that you need to upload the picture onto the internet somewhere. Most ISP's give you some space that you can use to store your own files. You will need to check with your ISP about how you access that area. Alternatively you can use a picture that you have found somewhere on the internet. Once it is on the internet somewhere, click on the Insert Image button at the top of the New thread/post and enter the URL of the image.

The first option is by far the easiest but does have some limitations. The majority of this thread is there to help you get your images down to under 100k. This is because digital cameras etc make your files very large so you need some software to reduce it. You can use the standard Photot Editor that comes with windows, but it isn't very efficient.

I just email a piccy to me and the downsize option kicks in, when its done I right click the image and save in my pictures.
You can do this without sending the email and just delete when you have saved the reduced image.

I have posted the following picture reduction technique before, so some may recognise it. But it is so good that I feel obliged to do so again.

If you think that posting pictures to a 100kb limit is tough, then you should try the websites that limit picture size to 40 kb!! I have a fair amount of experience with Photoshop as well as freebees such as Irfan. But I now prefer to reduce pictures with MS Word. Yes, that's right, a word processor!

The biggest problem I have found is keeping the detail when reducing picture size. I just struggle to get it right and my 900+ kb pics end up looking blurred. Consider me a dummy, and that this tip is for my fellow dummies!

What to do? Open a blank word document and insert the picture. Save this as a htm/html file. Look up the saved file in Windows Explorer. You will find two associated files, both image files. One will be the original size (in the example I have used here, the original image was 925 kb). The second image is much smaller, typically around 30 kb here. You can manaipulate the size of this image by either reducing or enlarging the picture embedded in the word document. Below is the 925 kb image reduced to 42 kb.

    Try it.

    Regards from Perth

    Derek

Theres words to describe pictures like that...two highly desirables in natural state at the top of their form....ahem, unfortunately they fall under the "pornographic" heading  and I cannot post them, however Derek, that makes you a harbinger of lustfull feelings keep posting photos like that and you will become our #1 amateur tool pornographer.

BTW hope the trip went well.
