I'm used to rentals and have never had a decent electric. Am so used to them being hopeless that when we bought a new oven we didn't look at electrics.

SWMBO says that a gas cook top is OK but she really likes her electric one.

She also said that an electric oven is the only way to go. Simply because they are available as self cleaning models an that the electric ones self clean much better than the gas models.

So to be sure that I'm discussing the correct appliance...
The refrigerator is the tall skinny one and the stove is the short fat one, correct?

Hmmm... this make me a "Refigistove".... Tall and fat!

OK, after talking here and to a couple of local ladies it looks like I will be doing the gas top, electric oven thing. I have just gotten rid of a convection/microwave, I wasn't keen on it even though the "ex" liked the thing.
Now, brands! I want the absolutely best quality at bargain prices..... HELP!

    Chef's a good brand.
For some reason I don't fancy imported brands

What the heck do you want a stove for? Can't cool beer in it. Next you will be looking for a washing machine and vacuum cleaner etc.
    Beach shack = BBQ
If you can do it - Do it! If you can't do it - Try it!
    Do both well!
