As a schoolie I have 'access' to pencils so I worked out a solution to the problem of the pencil thief. I brought home 3 boxes of them (20 in each box) all sharpened. Whenever i needed one i just went to the boxes. If the theif took one, no problem, there's heaps left to choose from.

Major problem is that I looked 2 days ago and there are only 3 pencils left and they are all blunt,ie have been used. I think the thief has a mineral deficiency and eats them.
When I asked the 'laundry attendant', "Have you seen any pencils? she answered, " I think there's one on the laundry shelf." ONE!!!!!

    Jim,
the pencil thief paid me a visit...caught the bugga...with pockets full of them.

BTW does anyone still use those clutch pencils? I have a couple of boxes of leads that I won't use...
    Peter

And later on as the crowd thinned out
I’s just about to do the same.

That damned pencil thief is clever.

I got so frustrated when working on-site that I drilled a hole thru one end of my chippies pencil and tied a large loop of string line through the end, so I could hang it around my neck.

Used it for an hour or two and then...

I suspect it was taken for walkies on it's leash.

We have a pencil user at work, who insists on returning the stubs to the box..... you go to throw the empty box in the bin only to find all these stubs in the bottom....

Nails go too - especially the size you need. I've just found my tape on the workbench. So they do bring some things back.

It's not an 'orribly lurid fluorescent shade of yellow, green, orange or pink is it?

If so, it's probably one of mine and the thief is just messing with us.

(Why, oh why, is it that these fluorescent monstrosities seem to fade seamlessly into the background the minute you put them down? )

No it's my black one = though BD seems to think it's his for some reason.
But, how can you lose a black tape on a workbench? I don't even have any ebony that size.
As for fluorescent ones, I'm sure the manufacturers have a contract with the defence department for camouflage and are using up the remnants!
    Cheers,

Wouldn't care to go halvies in them Ian, that way when the shed fairies strike they can carry them back and forth and we won't notice.

If you find you have dug yourself a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging.
I just finished child-proofing our house - but they still get inside.
