Ern - I've got a source of cheap (i.e. free) 10mm float glass offcuts, so I'm more inclined to use those near abrasives these days. The granite plate is the only known flat thing in my workshop, so I'm trying to keep it that way.
That coarse SiC grit is aggressive stuff, but I still get a few goes out of each piece of glass. Yup - its for flattening my Sigma #120 stone, which you will be familiar with. The only sharpening/flattening operation that I wear earmuffs for
I'm still waiting for Aldi to get those cheap ultrasonic cleaners in again, as I want to see if it would be effective in "unloading" the metal particles from the Sigma #120 stone. This would give a lot more use before having to resort to the SiC on glass again.

Any glass supplier will have it. Look for 8 or 10mm thick; mount on thick MDF. And a forum member suggested asking for scraps/breakages, which might be big enough.
