AH ! Yes I like the first guys method of using the cheap vernier caliper . I will do the same thing. I notice he has the same machine that I have , the yellow one. I have an aversion to electronic readouts as they will eventually play up, but those digital verniers are so cheap these days... if it blows up then its no hassle to fit another one really . Thanks Dave. PS, there is a large amount of quill up/down play on those machines in certain situations , but you always lock the quill before doing any machining . MIKE
