Advice Required - Metallic or Non Metallic Painted Car?

Not that I am any expert, but I always went with RACV.

Maybe not the greatest, but they did the right thing by me more than once. If I were in the market for insurance again, I'd personally give them a decent head start.

But that's just me.

(Heck, the insurance we have here is fairly cheap, and if they have money left over at the end of the year after all the claims, they give some of it back. :eek: )

Hi Schtoo,

I phoned up both AAMI (with whom I was with for 12 years until earlier this year) and the RACV. Comparing apples with apples I went with the latter as it was nearly $200 cheaper and you could pay an extra $60 to cover for a broken window screen which AAMI doesn't cover you for if you live in Melbourne:eek:.

My insurance agent has my Falcon insured with Lumleys. I had to make a small claim about 18 months ago (backed into an off duty policeman in a car park would you believe, while dropping off my daughter at an access changeover ). There was no problem at all.

I've been insured with Shannons as well. Had to make a claim about eight years ago - bloke ran a red light and wrote off my Rover. No problems - assessed, and all that good stuff really quickly ... then it took me three months to get the money out of them. They kept claiming it was a book keeping stuff up and from the way it all happened, that is probably true (the whole situation got a bit chaotic).

To be fair to Shannons though, about 12 years back, a drunk rear ended a line of four cars and my wee MG was at the front. I only had third party property, but because the drunk was unisured (and unlicensed in a stolen car and left the scene before evading arrest ), they tracked him down (in jail for the prang ), got him to sign a declaration that he had no insurance, then paid for a top, local, MG shop to repair my car.

I've also been insured with other people over the years - they were all very efficient in taking my money but considering I never put them under any other stress, I won't comment further.
